Shift Engineer - Dordon, Tamworth

Undertaking day-to-day reactive and planned engineering maintenance activities and improvement works at the CFC. Working closely with Inbound, Outbound, and other support teams to optimise availability and performance of the facility and its MHE automation. The role is shift-based to support the 24/7 operation of the CFC (including days, nights, and weekends).

Accountability

  1. Carry out planned maintenance across the site in an accurate, timely, and safe manner.
  2. Keep records of work activities, tasks carried out, parts used through stores, training, etc.
  3. Work closely with other departments, finding ways to increase machine reliability on existing and new equipment.
  4. Diagnose equipment breakdowns and action repairs where possible.
  5. Be available to attend training sessions.
  6. Perform daily housekeeping and cleaning duties of equipment.
  7. Supervise external contractors when in their relevant section.
  8. Work closely with the team to assist in developing skills and transferring knowledge across the engineering team.
  9. Analyse data and find solutions to improve MHE performance.
  10. Work closely with inbound, outbound, and other support teams daily to ensure direction of labour and planned engineering activities fully support operation.
  11. Reporting and monitoring of data for automation and maintenance activities.
  12. Maintain and improve performance to maximise efficiency of operation in line with KPIs.
  13. Assist in the development of the planned maintenance system.
  14. Involvement with projects within the business to develop effective engineering installs and solutions.
  15. Support and propose innovative ideas to enhance the warehouse or engineering functions and improve the general running of the business.
  16. Deliver a high availability level within the operation to maximise our customer experience.
  17. Ensure site standards are high, with an excellence approach to activities and site standards within your area.
  18. Communicate and report work activities, defects, and parts used through appropriate mediums, whether directly to operation or Engineering team Manager during breakdowns or through full reporting after the event to ensure an accurate record is maintained.
  19. Plan and schedule planned and unplanned work.
  20. Carry out quality inspections on jobs, ensuring work is completed to a safe standard.
  21. Ensure, through maintenance activities, that equipment is safe and maintained safely.
  22. Direct, instruct, and supervise Technicians & Technical Assistants.
  23. Arrange the specialist procurement of fixtures, fittings, or components.
  24. Control maintenance tools, stores, and equipment; ensuring equipment is stored and used in a safe and controlled manner.
  25. Ability to carry out physical engineering maintenance activities at the CFC.
  26. Write maintenance strategies to help with installation and commissioning guidelines.
  27. Report Hazards, Accidents, and Near Misses, being involved in identification and implementation of solutions.

Skill, Experience, and Qualifications

  1. Good technical ability relating to automation hardware and software, this may include, but is not limited to:
  2. HNC Engineering or equivalent
  3. Relevant Degree coupled with relevant applied learning
  4. Engineering Technician Apprenticeship
  5. Manufacturers PLC training
  6. Electrical and/or mechanical skills preferably gained in an FMCG background to at least NVQ 3
  7. Sound analytical skills, good problem solver.
  8. Good communication skills both verbal and written and good interpersonal skills, able to analyse and impart knowledge.
  9. Good organisational ability, able to prioritise.
  10. Knowledge of Control Systems is desirable.
  11. Self-motivated, consistent, and able to work at pace.
  12. Computer literate and able to use a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS).
  13. Physically fit to be safely able to carry out engineering maintenance activities at the CFC.
  14. English ability such that able to read and understand safety information, technical manuals and data, and communicate clearly with colleagues to enable a safe environment.
  15. Experience within an Engineering Service Support role in an automated production environment.
