What You’ll Do:
The Mechanical & Electrical Engineer will play a key role in supporting the Workspace Manager at our office, and will oversee all electrical and mechanical operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical & electrical qualification, combined with extensive experience in supervising mechanical & electrical maintenance/repairs. This role requires not only technical expertise, but also proven leadership abilities to ensure the efficient operation of all mechanical & electrical systems within the facility.
Here is what your day-to-day will look like:
1. Maintenance Supervision & Repair
- Lead and manage all electrical and mechanical maintenance activities, including HVAC systems, plumbing, ventilation, and essential equipment.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to optimize system performance and minimize downtime.
- Serve as the first line of response for mechanical, electrical, and infrastructure issues, addressing emergencies and faults promptly.
2. Inspections & Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance activities meet UK electrical and mechanical regulations, standards, and codes of practice.
- Conduct regular inspections and testing of electrical and mechanical systems to verify safety, integrity, and performance.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry best practices, implementing improvements to maintain compliance.
3. Technical Expertise
- Provide technical guidance to maintenance technicians and contractors on both electrical and mechanical systems.
- Troubleshoot complex issues, diagnose problems, and implement effective solutions.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to integrate systems across building infrastructure.
- Review design specifications, drawings, and proposals for new installations or system upgrades.
4. Health, Safety & Compliance
- Enforce strict adherence to health and safety standards during all maintenance activities.
- Conduct risk assessments for potential hazards associated with electrical and mechanical systems, implementing necessary safety measures.
- Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring that all staff and contractors follow protocols.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, testing results, and equipment documentation.
- Prepare detailed reports on maintenance work, highlighting completed tasks, issues encountered, and recommendations for improvements.
- Collaborate with the facility management team on budget development, forecasting, and expenditure reports related to maintenance.
6. Teamwork & Flexibility
- Be available for weekend/evening shifts as required.
- Support other engineering tasks as needed, demonstrating flexibility in task management and cross-functional collaboration.
What We’re Looking For:
We are seeking someone who is not just professional but also knows how to keep things light and positive.
- Must have a UK electrical qualification such as Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 (For those who have completed Level 2 Apprenticeship or have relevant experience).
- Qualifications will be required to be verified before interview. Equivalent qualifications may be considered, however will be verified before interview.
- Experience in electrical maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting in a facilities management or a similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK electrical regulations, standards, and codes of practice.
- Proficient knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing, ventilation, and other mechanical systems.
- Proven experience in a supervisory role within mechanical maintenance – preferably in a facilities management environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work independently and as a team while maintaining high quality standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex electrical issues effectively.
- Full clean driver’s license with the ability to travel between sites as required.
