Job DescriptionPrincipal Mechanical Design Engineer- Water
London
Permanent
£60,000 - £70,000 per annum

Are you an experienced wastewater (infrastructure or non- infrastructure) engineer looking to get involved in the largest wastewater environmental improvement programme?

This is an exciting time to join my client as they establish and grow their Water Sector team, offering fantastic career progression and the chance to play a key role in shaping this team and driving meaningful change.
We're a growing business - small enough for every individual to play a vital role and be genuinely valued, yet big enough to make a significant impact in the industry.
With a diverse and exciting workload that extends beyond just Water, this is an opportunity to be part of something with tremendous potential, where your contributions will directly influence our success.

They are looking to appoint an exceptional Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our newly formed multi-disciplinary Water Team, where you will play a key role in delivering a wide range of wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.

They are looking for someone who offers a fresh approach to conventional thinking and works collaboratively to meet a wide range of business, environmental, and regulatory difficulties for our clients.

What you will do

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will produce technical designs, specifications and reports for a large variety of projects in terms of size, type, and complexity, both single discipline and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

You will be involved in projects from conception to completion including:

  • Supporting the Project Manager/Water Sector Director to clarify the project brief (agree on deliverables, key milestones, project methodology etc).

  • Undertaking significant elements of the detailed design and the checking of outputs as directed (producing technical outputs such as design specifications, sizing and designing pumping systems & aeration systems, hydraulic calculations, and production of construction drawings, schedules, reports and collaborating on planning reviews and designs of solutions).

  • Production of procurement specifications for mechanical equipment.

  • Provide engineering input design outputs in collaboration with other disciplines, such as General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams.

  • Project managing third party designs and providing design assistance to installation and commissioning teams ensuring the Clients' Technical Requirements are met throughout the design.

As a member of the new Water Team, you will also be involved in business development activities including assisting with the preparation of capability statements and the submission of pre-qualification questionnaires, expressions of interest and tenders, and building strong relationships with new and existing clients to drive growth and secure repeat business.

Requirements

You will have significant experience working in wastewater infrastructure across the UK. You will be able to demonstrate your skills and knowledge of the industry and be passionate about driving your career in engineering forward.

  • Experience managing wastewater and/ or water schemes.

  • In-depth knowledge of the layout and interconnectivity of typical wastewater treatment works processes and equipment, including pumping system calculations.

  • Good knowledge of industry design software packages.

  • Excellent communication skills and a team player with an assured, positive and enthusiastic attitude in communicating effectively with clients and the wider teams.

  • Experience mentoring, coaching and supervising a team.

  • You will be degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant subject.

  • You will ideally be an Incorporated or Chartered member of a relevant engineering institution.

Why this role?

We're excited about growth prospects, and this is a fantastic opportunity to work within a newly established sector where you can help shape both your future and the Company's success in the Water Sector while expanding and diversifying your expertise as an engineer.
