Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Materials Scientist to join a renowned company known for its pioneering research and development in sustainable materials. This role can be full-time or part-time offering excellent benefits and a salary circa GBP40,000.

As a Materials Scientist, you will report to the Project Lead / Principal Scientist, conducting research and experiments to enhance material properties, applying theoretical principles, and collaborating with experts to develop innovative solutions.

You will be responsible for:

  1. Conducting experiments and testing both new and existing materials.
  2. Developing new hypotheses and experimental techniques to enhance material understanding.
  3. Refining material deposition and processing methods to optimise performance.
  4. Analysing results against theoretical models and literature.
  5. Modelling material or device properties to predict application performance.
  6. Engaging with external experts and research institutions to expand capabilities.
  7. Contributing to intellectual property development through innovative solutions.

What we are looking for:

  1. Previously worked as a Materials Scientist, Research Scientist, Physicist, Materials Engineer, Materials Researcher, Research Associate or in a similar role.
  2. Experience in conducting experiments on novel materials or devices.
  3. Background in the development of new hypotheses for improving material properties.
  4. Degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering, with a PhD in a related field.
  5. Strong academic grounding in physics, with expertise in material properties.
  6. Ideally have experience in incorporating materials into test structures to demonstrate desired functional properties and modelling material properties or their performance in device structures.
