Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Developing and executing material programme plans, subcontract management plans (together with Supply Chain team).
  • Strategic thinking with tactical application of those strategies to programmes.
  • Accountable for developing material strategies.
  • Working closely with Engineering, Quality and Operations to create a schedule for projects based on Material Requirements Planning (MRP).
  • Developing and leading Planning related proposal activities including task descriptions and bases of estimates.
  • In conjunction with engineering, developing accurate Bill of Materials (BOM’s) from the technical baseline within a few days of proposal kick off, controlling changes in the BOM during the proposal process and promptly flowing any changes to material estimating and developing a strategy to get representative costs.
  • Developing accurate Materials Estimates.
  • Partnering with Programmes and Engineering to navigate obsolescence, long lead and last time buy material situations to ensure programme schedules are met.
  • Actively engaging in proposals.
  • Accountable for applying material strategy to bids and proposals.
  • Managing material actual cost vs should cost.
  • Accountable for decision making in the make/buy/where process.
  • Developing and executing risk/opportunity plans to meet programme objectives.
  • Collaborating with supply chain functions for support as needed.
  • Developing and monitoring performance metrics and proactively acting to address programme and functional issues.
  • Earned Value Management and Financial management skills, including Material EAC’s and Material Forecasting.

Basic Qualification

  • Experience working in the Aerospace & Defence industry.
  • Ability to obtain UK Security Clearance at time of hire.

Preferred Qualification

  • MCIPS or APM membership preferred.
  • Strong Planning experience.
  • Proficient in ERP/MRP business systems.
  • Microsoft Project experience.
  • Experience managing to a budget.
  • Experience providing inputs into or reviewing EACs.
  • Experience collaborating with the Subcontract Manager to review statements of work (SOW) that are complete and conform to programme requirements.
  • Experience in electronics/aerospace hardware applications as well as knowledge of operational and manufacturing processes (assembly, integration, and test).
  • Experience converting business area and customer requirements into executable strategies.
  • Experience leading in an Integrated Programme Team (IPT) environment.
  • Knowledge of Defence contracting.

Education/Experience:

  • Ideally degree level qualification in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering or in a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Combined work experience in functional areas of Planning, Supply Chain, Finance, Operations (including Production Control), or Project Management.
