As a key member of the Woolwich Ferry Engineering team, you’ll be responsible for the efficient management of materials, stores, and equipment on site, which is critical to safe operational delivery and performance to support the success of planned and routine maintenance of the vessels associated infrastructure at the berths and terminals, as well as special engineering projects.
You’ll maintain a high standard of inventory controls within required targets and costs delivering timely support in conjunction with a wide range of commercial supply chain partners that ensures best value and quality of procured goods and materials, compliant with TfL procurement and environmental standards.
In addition, you’ll support the Marine Engineering Manager in establishing materials management capability and a safety culture with personal drive, high energy results driven, professional 'can-do' attitude.

Accountabilities

  1. Responsible for managing the day-to-day materials and stores arrangements and whole life-cycle of stock control, ensuring materials are readily available to deliver all planned and unplanned maintenance needs including critical spares, other spares, general stores, and equipment.
  2. Procure and maintain the inventory of spares and equipment in accordance with planned work and servicing schedules ensuring timely ordering, quality, prices, and delivery are consistent with specification and service levels/customer requirements.
  3. Monitor and manage supply chain performance and quality controls to ensure spare parts both critical or otherwise provided by the supplier are compliant with procurement contracts.
  4. Pro-actively develop good relationships with all suppliers and local businesses to build strong supplier support in meeting business needs.
  5. Obtain relevant quotations and negotiate competitive pricing, ensuring supply chain is optimised to offer maximum efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  6. Provide assurance through the timely maintenance of accurate records of all bought supplies and equipment are always available in the required quality and amount through the Planned Maintenance System (Maximo).
  7. Develop, gain approval of and implement strategies for the management of obsolescence of bought materials and supplies by working with engineers and others as required to ensure continued service.
  8. Manage the engineering materials budget on a day-to-day basis, with authority to purchase within a delegated authority capacity.

Knowledge

  1. Knowledge of procurement processes and ethical practice (Essential)
  2. Knowledge of stock control systems associated with Planned Maintenance Software, preferably Maximo or equivalent (Essential)
  3. Knowledge of materials and stores management within a safety critical operational or engineering industry (transport or rail industry, desirable) (Essential)
  4. Knowledge of the effective use and limitations of commonly available office applications. (Desirable)
  5. Knowledge of vessel and boat operations and related engineering principles, practice and standards. (Desirable)
  6. Knowledge of effective Health & Safety in the workplace (Essential)

Experience

  1. Experience of prioritising procurement plans and implementing these to deadlines, efficiently and to budget (Essential)
  2. Experience of working closely with front line operations and management teams (Essential)
  3. Experience of managing a variety of stakeholders within an operational environment (Desirable)
  4. Experience of building and sustaining strong partnerships and influencing a range of people at all levels (Desirable)
