Job Introduction

The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, celebrated for its dynamic performances and rich history spanning over a century, is looking to hire a new Marketing Assistant. This is a substantial role for a marketing or communications professional in the early stages of their career, and will support the Marketing & Audiences team at the Philharmonic to build content, deliver campaigns, and develop audiences.

We are looking for someone bright and ambitious to help us tell our story and to connect with our current and future audiences. The job includes equal parts campaign delivery, content creation, and support tasks, and will report directly to the Head of Philharmonic Marketing. While extensive marketing experience or knowledge of classical music is not essential, it is important to us that applicants engage with the arts on a broader level and are passionate about different forms of culture - be it specific genres of music, dance, literature, visual art, or any other field.

Main Responsibilities

Campaign Delivery
  • Supports the overall development and delivery of marketing campaigns.
  • Supports the Marketing & Audiences team in the process of creative asset development by taking ownership of a range of campaign assets and ensuring delivery is made according to each individual campaign plan.
  • Runs some contained end-to-end marketing campaigns for less complex deliverables in the Marketing Plan.
  • Assists in the planning and creation of digital and social media content.
  • Assists in the development and management of events.
  • Supports the Marketing & Audiences team with the necessary compliance of all marketing and communications activity by following BBC Editorial Guidelines.
  • Organises all campaign collateral and documentation such that we maintain strong records of assets, plans, and performance of individual campaigns.


Strategy and Planning
  • Follows Marketing Plans as guidance throughout the campaign development process.
  • Understands audience insights relevant to campaigns, and applies them to the creation of campaign assets.
  • Assists in the evaluation of campaign performance, including supply of assets for testing, and understanding results of audience research.
  • Accountable for multiple deliverables at any one time, successfully managing their time across them all to ensure each is delivered with excellence.


General

  • Assists in cross-team co-ordination across creative, media, social, and comms to ensure that campaign tactics are well understood and integrated across the teams, for a timely and integrated delivery across the team.

Are you the right candidate?

Essentials (must have)
  • The Marketing Assistant will be expected to either have some marketing experience, or to demonstrate a clear aptitude for marketing work which involves creative judgement, skills of organisation, and ability to influence and collaborate with others.


The role will require:

Desirables (nice to have)
  • Experience of working with artists and creatives.
  • Knowledge of the UK's arts and culture sector.
  • Strong copywriting skills.
  • Strong social media skills.
  • Experience working with Adobe InDesign, and more broadly, Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Interest in classical music.
  • Experience assisting and managing on all aspects of a marketing campaign including evaluation.

The process

2. Sunday 22nd September 2024 - Applications close

3. Week commencing 23 September - Candidates notified of results

Following assessment, shortlisted candidates will be invited to the second stage of the process, which includes a formal interview.

Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email.

4. Week commencing 30 September - Interviews

Interviews will be conducted at the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra's office, or via video call by a small panel.

5. Week commencing 7 October - Interview outcome

Following the interview stage, all shortlisted candidates will be notified of the outcome by email, phone, or will be informed of next steps. For unsuccessful candidates at this stage, there will be the option to request personal and specific feedback either via a follow-up phone call or email.
