Background

An opportunity has arisen to join the Marketing and Communications team in the College of Life and Environmental Sciences on a permanent contract. We are looking for someone to join us as a Marketing and Student Recruitment Coordinator (Grade 5).

Role Summary

Working under the direction of the College Marketing and Student Recruitment Officer (Undergraduate), the post holder will be actively involved in the delivery of marketing and communications activity to support the recruitment of students into the College of Life and Environmental Sciences. This will involve marketing to a range of audiences and engaging with a range of stakeholders including prospective students and their parents/guardians both in the UK and overseas.

The post holder will focus on day-to-day support of student recruitment activities and processes, and support the delivery of marketing operations. They will be expected to build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of staff in the College, across External Relations and the wider University, as well as interact on a daily basis with prospective students and parents. This is a varied and rewarding role for someone wishing to develop their experience within student recruitment and marketing.

Main Duties

  1. To be the first point of contact for enquiries from admissions leads and programme leads in their allocated School/s. This will require the post holder to use their own initiative to find solutions and resolve matters when responding to enquiries.
  2. To take the lead in organising student recruitment events with guidance from the College Marketing and Student Recruitment Officer and relevant Admissions Tutors. This will include organising all logistics and coordinating the running of events.
  3. To gain a sound knowledge and become an active user of the CRM system; to include set up of communications and events for enquirers and applicants under the direction of the College Marketing and Student Recruitment Officer.
  4. To support market research projects including competitor scanning, data collection, online surveys and focus groups.
  5. To recruit student ambassadors for use in recruitment events, including assessing applications, conducting interviews and training. This also includes managing student ambassadors to ensure standards are maintained.
  6. To assist with the Confirmation and Clearing process within the College and be involved in University-level activities during this time as appropriate.
  7. To support the delivery of updates to printed literature and make basic updates to online course pages with guidance from the digital team.
  8. To collate student profiles for use in publicity materials.
  9. To conduct or organise telemarketing exercises.
  10. To support the delivery of outreach/schools liaison activities as directed.
  11. The post will require occasional attendance at out-of-hours events, such as weekend and evening events.
  12. To undertake a range of other duties as directed by the College Marketing and Student Recruitment Officer or other senior team managers.
Person Specification
  1. Relevant experience, preferably in higher education and events.
  2. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with difficult situations.
  3. Strong communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and concisely for a range of audiences, including to applicants, parents and staff.
  4. Excellent attention to detail, with high standards of accuracy.
  5. Ability to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discretion particularly when dealing with information of a confidential nature.
  6. An innovative and creative approach to student recruitment activities.
  7. Demonstrable commitment to customer service. A strong understanding of how to respond to differing stakeholders' needs, including internal customers across different University departments, and applicants/enquirers from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  8. Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and an ability to prioritise and schedule workloads.
  9. A high level of initiative is required along with the capacity to work independently, whilst playing an active role in team-based tasks.
  10. Confident and competent use of IT.
  11. Knowledge of Customer Relationship Management systems and their benefits.
  12. Flexibility to work out of hours is required (e.g. weekend and evenings).
