About the role
Commercial Asset Optimisation (CAO) UK oversees the commercial management, optimisation and trading of RWE’s ~7GW thermal generation assets, alongside ~3GW of renewable energy production from RWE’s renewable subsidiaries. This diverse portfolio includes gas-fired (CCGT) power plants, Onshore and Offshore Wind, Hydro, and Biomass. CAO UK activities span the entire traded tenor, encompassing multiple revenue streams and extending to real-time trading and dispatch operations.

UK Markets and Performance Improvement is a multi-disciplinary team within CAO UK that helps the business manage and provides guidance in regulatory obligations and change, leads the implementation of new initiatives and business operations in CAO UK, reports CAO UK-wide performance and manages RWE’s participation in the Capacity Market.


The main responsibilities of the Market Transition Analyst will be:

  • Provide expertise to internal stakeholders in applying and interpreting industry commercial codes and regulations, collaborating with teams across RWE Group.
  • Promote RWE’s interests through external meetings and forums including industry-wide work-groups and bilateral dealings with external stakeholders including the National Energy System Operator (NESO), National Gas, Energy UK, Ofgem and the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).
  • Consult with internal stakeholders to develop initiatives, proposals and written consultation responses on specific regulatory changes to ensure they add value to RWE’s portfolio.

Job requirements and experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in energy markets
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Sound knowledge of the energy markets in GB or a willingness to learn
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload across multiple topics
  • Enthusiastic and flexible attitude to a dynamic work environment

Advantageous, but not essential

  • Knowledge of industry code governance and change processes
  • Experience in data analysis and/or market modelling
  • Knowledge of electricity or gas network operations
  • Background in financial analysis or project investment valuations
