Location: Portsmouth - some travel to the Head office in Croydon is required. Expenses will be covered.
This position requires a high degree of technical knowledge and experience, and confidence in making difficult and complex decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engineering Technical Superintendent for designated vessels.
- Arrange, facilitate and oversee maintenance and recertification periods, including visiting shipyards during maintenance periods to oversee quality of workmanship, completion of all contracted works and acceptance as required. This may involve periods working away from the home station.
- Maintain the material aspects and operational availability of the vessels in your charge to meet the requirements of the Maritime Control Centre.
- Ensure the vessels remain certified to all legislative requirements, including MCA Load Line certification or Workboat Code (Class 2).
- Liaise with the Border Force Maritime finance team and Home Office Commercial Directorate to ensure all related expenditure is compliant.
- Audit contract invoices against agreed and completed works before forward processing to the Vessel Management Senior Officer.
- Arrange and oversee all in year reactive maintenance and damage repairs.
Liaise with the Maritime Control Centre regarding scheduling of all work on your vessels that may impact on their operational availability.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring support to CPV crews on matters of an engineering nature. Identify engineering stores required for the CPV fleet to satisfy MB59 requests.
- Evaluate defect reports and take appropriate action.
- Undertake material assurance visits if required on an opportunity basis.
- Monitor vessel usage and machinery servicing requirements.
- Arrange storage for vessels surplus to operational requirement.
Essential Requirements:
- STCW Engineering OOW or Deck OOW to STCW lll/2 or higher or equivalent i.e. HND Marine Engineering.
- Up to date STCW Safety Certification or equivalent. Full UK manual driving licence.
Desired:
- Have relevant maritime background and experience e.g. has worked in Maritime Command and aboard Border Force vessels or other related maritime operationally focused services.
- An understanding of the work of Border Force and the wider Home Office or similar organisations.
