Manufacturing Engineer - Tooling

Location: Derby, Raynesway

Type: Full Time, On-Site

In this role, you will design and acquire specific expertise in product tooling & fixtures supporting the manufacture and delivery of Nuclear Steam Raising Plants. Execute Manufacturing Engineering activities to develop, maintain, and continuously improve tooling & fixtures to aid manufacturing processes and methods of manufacture or delivery of the product. You will provide technical support to ensure tooling & fixtures meet and continue to meet business and customer requirements for safety, quality, cost, delivery rate, and lead time (SQCD).

Hybrid working allows our people to balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location. It's a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum, we're all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing:

  1. HSE: Ensure that manufacturing processes comply with Health, Safety & Environmental Standards and meet the expectations of the Zero Harm programme.
  2. Product Safety: Ensure that tooling & fixtures are capable of achieving and sustaining the product design intent and that procedures are followed so that our products conform to their specifications. Rigorously raise, investigate, and resolve safety-related issues.
  3. Quality: Work with all functions to reduce risk and drive product Right First Time.
  4. Ensure compliance with all relevant company, legislative, and technical policies and standards including RRMS, GS3001, and Export Control and Intellectual Property requirements.
  5. Technical Authority: Ensure the application of the tooling & fixture process controls within their area of accountability, with authorisation subject to appropriate delegation.
  6. Requirements: Identify and develop opportunities for new or improved tooling & fixtures to allow manufacturing processes, digital systems, and technologies to meet current or future requirements, including the creation of Statement of Requirement (SoRs) for the manufacture of tools & fixtures for the external supply chain.

Who we're looking for:

  1. Professionally Qualified Engineer (e.g., UK minimum HNC/Foundation Degree or other equivalent)
  2. Recognised or international engineering accreditation (e.g., UK IEng, or CEng)
  3. General understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to their business
  4. General awareness of Manufacturing Systems and enabling software tools relevant to the business
  5. Understanding of Manufacturing Engineering processes relevant to their role
  6. Experience in NX and tooling/fixture design is highly desirable.
  7. Project management experience working in a manufacturing environment, dealing with multiple customers/suppliers simultaneously, with excellent written and oral communication skills.

Key Technical Skills:

  1. Authoring Tooling Design Specifications
  2. Design for Special to Product Tooling
  3. Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
  4. Experienced in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) & Design for Manufacture (DFM) fundamentals
  5. Safety Awareness, both conventional and Nuclear safety
  6. Understanding and interpretation of customer requirements
