Job Title: Managing Quantity Surveyor
Location: Scotland
Salary: £65,000 to £80,000

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join a leading main contractor working across Scotland. My client has a solid reputation for delivering complex, high value projects and the successful Managing Quantity Surveyor will be joining my clients rapidly growing power business. Their clients include Scottish Power, National Grid and SSE and their projects include the construction & refurbishment of substations through to the refurbishment of high voltage overhead powerlines.

As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in managing a portfolio of projects as well as taking responsibility for a small team of surveyors and supporting them with the development of their careers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Management: Oversee and manage all cost-related aspects of projects, including preparing cost estimates, budgets, and bills of quantities.
  • Financial Reporting: Provide accurate and timely financial reports, including cost forecasts, valuations, and final accounts.
  • Contract Administration: Administer contracts effectively, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions and managing any variations or changes.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential financial risks throughout project lifecycles.
  • Supplier and Subcontractor Management: Negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring value for money and quality of work.
  • Client Liaison: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing regular updates and ensuring satisfaction with project delivery.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and support junior quantity surveyors, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in quantity surveying, with a focus on infrastructure projects
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field. Professional membership with RICS or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, excellent attention to detail, and proficiency in relevant software (e.g., MS Excel, cost management software).
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
