Job description

Are you driven to develop our local healthcare to meet the needs of patients?

Wye Valley NHS Trust is looking for an exceptional leader with a successful track record in healthcare to take on the role of Managing Director, leading the Trust and executive team on a day-to-day basis and supporting the Foundation Group Chief Executive.

We are at a pivotal stage of our development as we continue our journey of improvement. We have a stable and strong team of Board members, with considerable experience within the NHS, as well as both wider public and private sectors. This has culminated in quality and safety improvements, and recognition that we are one of the most improved Trusts in the country.

We are now planning for an exciting future as a significant provider of community and hospital care to almost 195,000 people in Herefordshire and more than 40,000 people in mid-Powys, Wales. As an active partner within the Foundation Group and Herefordshire and Worcestershire Integrated Care System, we have expanded our capacity and are currently developing new diagnostic services as well as undertaking considerable investment in our medical staff, as part of an ambitious clinical services strategy.

This is an opportunity to bring your strong track record of improvement and delivery to our highly performing team. Highly visible, you will quickly build credibility with our dedicated staff, patients and partners.

Main duties of the job

As Managing Director you will support the Chief Executive Officer to fulfil the role of Accountable officer for Wye Valley NHS Trust by leading the Trust on a day-to-day basis. The post holder will also play a key part in the development of the Foundation Group and in the transition towards creating an Accountable Care Organisation in Herefordshire. The Managing Director will ensure that there is constant and visible Trust-wide leadership to direct and lead the Executive team to ensure delivery of its performance, financial and governance requirements.

About us

Wye Valley NHS Trust is a member of an NHS Foundation Group with South Warwickshire University NHS FT, George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and Worcestershire Acute NHS Hospitals Trust. Located on the border with Wales in the shadow of the Black Mountains, we provide acute and community services across Herefordshire and into parts of Powys and run Hereford County Hospital and the community hospitals in Bromyard, Leominster and Ross-on-Wye.

We are a progressive and forward-looking trust with ambitious plans to improve quality and integrate patient pathways through close collaborative working with our partners to deliver the quality of care we'd want for our family and friends. More than 3,000 people work for the Trust; they tell us it's a great place to work, blending the busyness of a DGH with the benefits of working in a beautiful rural and unspoilt county like Herefordshire. We can offer a great work-life balance and have a fine tradition of working with staff to help them achieve their full potential.

Russell Hardy, Trust Chairman: "The strength of the Trust is its amazing staff; a great place to work, a great place to develop your career and a great place to reach your potential." Our values - Care, Accountability, Respect and Excellence - are at the heart of all we do. We believe in providing the right care in the right place at the right time.
