R&D Manager

Location: Consett

Salary: Up to £75,000 per year, plus bonus

Hours: Monday Friday, 8am 4pm.

Job type: Full-time, permanent

Bridge Recruitment is helping one of our established clients recruit for an experienced R&D Manager to join their ever-expanding team. Within this role you will be reporting to the R&D Director.

Responsibilities Of The R&D Manager
  1. Lead the research, design, development, and validation of new products and enhance existing designs through value engineering.
  2. Oversee the specification and development of next-generation power and cable management products, ensuring alignment with marketing requirements and compliance with the latest National and International standards.
  3. Ensure the production and maintenance of technical files to meet UK Regulations and EU directives.
  4. Implement and monitor design and development procedures in accordance with ISO9001 and our client's ECO design policy.
  5. Manage testing, test reporting, and safety protocols in the test facility, ensuring product compliance.
  6. Coordinate with the Industrialization department to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective for production.
  7. Provide strategic guidance to the Purchasing department for sourcing parts from external suppliers.
  8. Collaborate with marketing to ensure the technical accuracy of catalogues and technical manuals.
  9. Support and mentor the technical team on electrical and mechanical matters related to company products.
  10. Utilize and promote the use of 2D and 3D CAD software in design processes.
  11. Champion and uphold their Group Values and Code of Ethics.
  12. Work in Engineering network with other UK&I R&D Centres and our client's Group R&D (SBUs).
Requirements Of The R&D Manager
  1. Significant experience in mechanical design and testing within a low voltage cable management or power distribution product manufacturing environment.
  2. Proven track record of testing and reporting in an ISO 17025 accredited test facility is preferred.
  3. Educated to Degree/HND level in an electrical or related engineering discipline.
  4. Membership in the IET, IMechE, or equivalent engineering/technical institution is preferred.
  5. In-depth knowledge of UK Wiring Regulations and relevant national and international standards.
  6. Extensive experience with Power Distribution and/or Cable Management Products.
  7. Proven ability to plan and manage complex product development projects and type testing programs.
  8. Advanced competence in AUTOCAD/INVENTOR and/or others 3-D Modelling systems.
  9. Strong IT skills, including proficiency in spreadsheets, engineering databases, and presentation tools.
  10. Excellent communication skills for effective interaction at all levels within and outside the company.
  11. Ability to lead and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  12. Self-motivated with strong leadership skills.
  13. Willingness to travel within and outside the UK as required.
