Position Summary:

Bentley Systems is hiring a Manager for our Data Engineering team within our growing Data Operations group. This is a role for an ambitious and technically-sound candidate with experience managing a team of software or data engineers to establish best practices, set goals, and execute with a mind for continuous growth and improvement. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with agile practices, managing engineers, and experience in organizations compliant with SOX and GDPR regulations. This role requires a balance of business and technical acumen, with an ability to understand requirements and communicate with clarity to stakeholders in all groups.

The Manager, Data Engineering will design and implement effective data solutions to solve data needs for different groups. This role will work with all groups within Bentley (Marketing, Sales, Product Development, Finance, Operations, and others) to understand their data needs and design systems to deliver information effectively.
Successful candidates will have experience in managing and leading high-performing data engineering teams to drive gains for the business. Candidates should have experience in agile project management facilitating day-to-day assignments, effective 1 on 1 meetings, setting OKRs, annual reviews, and driving results to meet the goals.

Responsibilities
  1. Manage and grow a team of data engineers to meet the long-term goals of the team.
  2. Lead the day-to-day operations of the data engineering team utilizing an agile methodology.
  3. Drive collaboration across different functional groups with Bentley to better understand what the business needs from the data engineering team.
  4. Manage teams who are building scalable cloud-based data systems.
  5. Facilitate and provide feedback for data engineers during weekly one on ones.
  6. Develop OKRs for the data engineering team that fit within the larger objectives for Data Operations.
Required Skills
  1. Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
  2. 3+ years of hands-on experience in a data role such as data engineering, data science, or data analytics.
  3. 2+ years of experience in a supervisor or team lead position.
  4. Ability to interface with technical colleagues and business colleagues to achieve shared outcomes.
  5. Experience utilizing an agile methodology to provide results to the business.
  6. Able to create quarterly and yearly roadmaps for the Data Engineering team.
  7. Deep understanding of cloud data warehouses or data lakehouses and best practices within the tools.
  8. Experience in working within the software engineering best practices.
  9. Experience managing data and data systems within data regulations such as GDPR and SOX.
