Management Accountant

Location: Widnes
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum

Schenk UK Ltd, formerly known as Sutton Tankers, is a leading national tanker haulage company with a rich history spanning over 60 years. As the UK's largest chemical transporter, we operate an extensive nationwide road tanker fleet, providing reliable and efficient services across the chemicals, gas, fuels, waste, and powders sectors.

The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Management Accountant to join our finance team in Widnes. This full-time, Monday-to-Friday role will involve preparing profit and loss statements for specific sectors, supporting and attending customer meetings, and managing key reconciliations for the Schenk UK business.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare monthly and weekly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, and variance analysis.
  2. Present financial reports to senior management as required.
  3. Maintain balance sheet control, including monthly reconciliations for selected accounts.
  4. Provide regular and ad-hoc management information.
  5. Business partner key stakeholders.
  6. Handle internal cost allocation recharges to ensure accurate performance reporting across depots, regions, contracts, and sectors.
  7. Produce financial data for open-book contracts.
  8. Assist with budgeting and forecasting for designated areas.
  9. Manage finance outputs from operational systems for sales invoicing and costings.
  10. Oversee reconciliations for fuel, mileage, and fleet.
  11. Track vehicle and tanker movements across the business and produce weekly fleet reports.
  12. Generate key performance indicators (KPIs) for various operational areas.
  13. Raise and receipt purchase orders for selected costs.
Person Specification:
  1. Fully or part-qualified CIMA, ACCA, or ACA accountant.
  2. Previous experience in a similar finance role, preferably within the logistics or transport industry.
  3. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to analyse large data sets.
  4. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  5. A proactive team player with a flexible approach to work.
  6. A quick learner who is comfortable with new systems and processes.
  7. Strong communication skills, with the ability to challenge and influence operational teams.
  8. A problem solver who can identify inefficiencies, recommend improvements, and support implementation.
  9. Hands-on approach, comfortable working beyond spreadsheets to engage with operational teams.
  10. Ability to translate financial information for a non-finance audience.
