Maintenance Operative (Facilities)

DP World London Gateway port & logistics park is seeking a Facilities General Maintenance Operative to help maintain and ensure the smooth functioning of the site. This role is critical in ensuring the upkeep and good order of facilities, addressing minor repairs, and identifying larger maintenance requirements.

About the role:

• Perform Maintenance Tasks:
  • Execute planned and reactive building maintenance, including general building repairs, joinery, tiling, painting, basic drainage & plumbing works.
  • Undertake condition inspections, reporting any major repair needs.
• Proactive Repairs and Upkeep:
  • Identify areas requiring attention across the port & estate and address them efficiently.
  • Complete small refurbishment projects and support general site improvements.
• Facilities Support:
  • Assemble, remove, and repair furniture as required.
  • Proactive in keeping the site tidy, clear debris, and maintain cleanliness in all external areas.
• Port Maintenance:
  • Operate a 3.5-ton road sweeper to maintain the cleanliness of road surfaces.
  • Maintain general site tidiness by addressing litter, fallen fences, damaged traffic signs, and other minor issues.
• Team Collaboration:
  • Work collaboratively with other teams and contractors to ensure tasks are completed effectively.

Skills and Experience:

• Full driving licence (required for operating vehicles and traveling across the site).
• Ability to work well under the direction of others and form part of a team made up of colleagues and contractors.
• Proven experience in a multitude of building maintenance tasks such as:
  • Basic plaster, tiling & carpentry repairs.
  • Patch painting and flooring repairs.
  • Basic plumbing and drainage repairs.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to report maintenance activities clearly.
• Good time management with the ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple demands.
• IT competency for record-keeping and reporting.

Beneficial:

• Experience in operating maintenance vehicles (e.g., road sweeper, mewp, forklift).
• Knowledge of health and safety standards in a large operational facility.
• Familiarity in using CAFM systems such as Maximo.
