Job description

Maintenance Engineer

Based in Wednesbury

Permanent Role - rotating shifts

Up to £34,000 basic per annum

A new exciting role is available to join an existing team of maintenance engineers within a well-established manufacturer in Wednesbury, Sandwell.

Your duty will be to resolve efficiently and effectively the day-to-day mechanical and electrical maintenance of tube laser cutting machines and associated value-added processes, attend breakdowns, and log all work completed on the maintenance system.

Carry out planned and preventative maintenance tasks in accordance with the maintenance plan.

Build strong key relationships with Department managers and Shop floor operatives through clear concise communication.

Be proactive in your approach to problems and subsequent countermeasures.

Follow all health and safety legislation and company rules when undertaking the role.

Key Responsibilities of a Maintenance Engineer:

  1. To carry out all duties within the scope of the Company mission and values and to support and encourage practices to meet this end.
  2. To carry out work in a safe manner, following correct procedure.
  3. To ensure all breakdowns are kept to a minimum.
  4. To follow best mechanical and electrical engineering practices.
  5. To ensure all planned work is completed with minimal disruption to production.
  6. Ensure that all work is undertaken to the highest standards both from yourself and others within the team.
  7. Carry out work to the highest standard and have pride in your work.
  8. To log all work carried out on the maintenance system.
  9. To own all critical spares and ensure stock levels are maintained.
  10. All parts used or replaced are to be logged.
  11. Shift Pattern will be AM & PM Shifts rotating.
  12. Overtime both planned and reactive will be expected to support the business.
  13. To report any potential problems to the Plant Manager and Laser Production Manager.
  14. To assist in improvement projects within the Laser department and general factory.

Qualifications and Experience of a Maintenance Engineer:

  1. City and Guilds or BTEC in an engineering discipline and/or time served.
  2. Electrical knowledge for circuitry and fault finding.
  3. PC skills for maintenance system and for machine operation systems.
  4. Worked within a manufacturing environment with precision machinery.
  5. Mechanical engineering knowledge.
  6. Fault finding within mechanical and electrical environments.
  7. Pneumatic and hydraulic knowledge would be advantageous.
  8. Strong understanding of machinery electrical and electronic circuits and systems.
  9. Training on and with current machinery and plant will be given during the probation period and support from all team members will be offered to allow successful transition into business.
  10. Training for further specific job-related tasks that require training will be offered once the probation period has been successfully passed.
