I have an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a long running engineering business in Redditch to contribute to future product development.

Joining a team of design engineers, you will be creating 2D & 3D design to meet client specifications ahead of manufacture. 

In the role you will be working on a mixture of updating existing products, liaising with suppliers and customers, along with working on new product development keeping the business at the forefront of their industry. 

Design Engineer Experience Required

  • Related Engineering qualification
  • SolidWorks preferred
  • Exposure to metal manufacturing environment
  • Creation of BOMs and other technical documentation
  • 3 years’ experience post-graduation.

Role Function

This is a hands-on Workshop Engineer focussed role. The ideal candidate will have a mechanical engineering / Automotive type background (or at least an interest in automotive engineering), with some exposure to assembly, welding / fabrication. Any CAD experience would be advantageous but isn’t essential.

  • The Workshop Engineer will develop & design the first installation kit for each of the company product ranges for new vehicles in order that these can be replicated for future orders. The business is built around supplying dedicated installation kits in order that all of their products can be installed on a mobile basis or in a workshop.
  • This is a hands-on role with the expectations to create your own designs after a comprehensive induction process to get a complete understating of all of the different products and the way the company works.
  • Designs must be processed to the highest standard possible balancing “ease of install” with “manufacturing repeatability” in all cases. 
  • The successful candidate will need a strong mechanical bias, ideally coming from an automotive background, being able to apply your fabrication skills to the bespoke design of various styles of vehicle specific adaptations. Welding will be a compulsory requirement for this role.
  • Your output must fulfil the demanding requirement of delivering both customer functionality and manufacturing repeatability, whilst providing on-site fitters with a solution which can readily be installed on site, with the minimum of inconvenience.
  • The kit design journey must be documented to a high standard, with the information provided enabling other stakeholders within the business to prepare the engineers’ design for market. As such, the candidate should be proficient in the basic Microsoft packages, and ideally have an aptitude for CAD style drawing packages or similar.
  • Optimal customer service is a pre-requisite for us and as such, the candidate should be comfortable in dealing with customers on a one-to-one basis as the situation may occasionally dictate.
  • Underpinning all of the above they are looking for a confident, self-motivated individual who enjoys the challenge of solving problems yet is able to deliver a high standard of work within a challenging timeframe.
  • A clean driving license is essential for this role.

The Application Engineer team within the company is growing to support the ever-increasing number of clients and the application driven business focus. The core purpose of the team is to provide support as the 
first line of technical help for Partners, Customers and the Regional Sales Managers. Through deep 
understanding of company products and knowledge of the applicable regional standards / regulations, the candidate will be expected to provide guidance to customers during pre-sales discussions. 

The role then focuses on the post sales elements of identifying issues and supporting technical questions through to resolution for products in the field.

This is a great opportunity that offers real growth and development for an Application and Technical Support Engineer with relevant experience to develop knowledge in this specific industry on not only product but also the application environment. You will receive training relative to applications, required tools, details on products and the specific role responsibilities. 

  • The Application Engineer will have experience in technical support, field service, or engineering roles working with safety products or in industrial automation.
  • A Degree would be ideal (Electrical or Mechanical) but isn’t essential.
  • 1-3 years of experience in technical support, field service, or engineering roles.
  • Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and related automation technologies. Hands-on experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues. 
  • Strong communication skills for effectively interacting with customers, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with cross-functional departments (e.g., Design, Quality, Sales, Engineering).


Other Useful / Non-Essential Experience

  • Familiarity with Machinery Safety Standards and Regulations would be a big advantage.
  • Additional certifications related to automation, control systems, or safety engineering.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g. Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Ethercat).
  • Experience with software tools used in automation (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Automation Studio 5000). 
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic and testing tools for electronic and mechanical systems.


Key Responsibilities

  • The Application Engineer will review customers concerns or questions, via all platforms to quickly understand their pain points and provide a suitable resolution, where a resolution is not immediately available process in line with tech support/quality procedures. 
  • Providing technical support to customers via face-to-face onsite visits, telephone, and other platforms to support pre, during and post sales. 
  • Establish best practices for technical account management and demonstrate to internal sales team to help them, resolve customers issues, support an internal process for knowledge share. 
  • Request and support required part information and documentationfrom required departments. 
  • Define products for a range of applications and support application replication.
  • Support creation / understand project books to drive standardization and global specifications for key customers
  • Drive key application areas to help support business growth and future product development.
