A unique opportunity to join a dynamic, world-renowned literary agency at the very centre of the publishing industry

Madeleine Milburn Ltd is looking for an energetic, creative and highly-motivated Rights Assistant to join their busy International Rights Department and provide support to Valentina Paulmichl (Head of Rights) and Hannah Kettles (Associate Rights Agent).

The successful candidate will be passionate, ambitious and hardworking, with a keen interest in the international book market across all genres, and have a demonstrable desire to progress within International Rights at the agency. They should thrive in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment and have excellent administrative, organisational, time management and communication skills. Languages are beneficial but not essential.

As part of a busy team, this vital role will demand a strong sense of initiative, urgency and a desire to learn, coupled with an aptitude for multitasking while maintaining great attention to detail. It is best suited to someone with publishing experience at a junior level, or someone with previous office experience and transferable skills, with a desire to make the next step, or sidestep, in their career in International Rights.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): supporting the team with the day-to-day running of the department, assisting with international rights for adult fiction and non-fiction, YA and children’s titles; reading submissions, creating agency marketing material; scheduling and attending book fairs; royalty, payment and contract processing; database inputting; responsibility for agency media in relation to international rights; handling international publicity for authors; liaising with our co-agented territories and, if experience deems it appropriate, directly with some of our international publishers in smaller markets; general office duties.

• Staff are entitled to two weeks of concurrent remote work under our Agency Nomad scheme, allowing them to work remotely from anywhere in the world.
