Job description

We are currently recruiting a Machine Tool Automation Engineer to join an industry leading business involved in support of machine tool systems around the globe.

The successful candidate will be responsible for working on a range of projects involved in interfacing and integrating machines into automated cells. This will involve a combination of Robotics, Conveyors, Gantries, and Automatic Measuring equipment.

Interested candidates will ideally be HNC/HND Qualified as a minimum in a related field (Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or Automation based field) with demonstrable experience working on automation projects around machine tools.

Candidates will be required to travel to sites across the UK; therefore, a Full UK Clean driving license is required. Work may also be required overseas; therefore, a UK Passport will also be needed.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours basic.

Role Description

  1. Automation Design & Programming: Develop and commission automation systems, including PLCs, robotic cells, and machine tool integrations.
  2. Mechanical & Electrical Work: Hands-on mechanical fitting, electrical wiring, and panel building for automation systems.
  3. System Communication: Interface devices using communication protocols such as RS232, RS485, Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet IP, and TCP/IP.
  4. Signal Integration: Understand and implement handshake signals for seamless interfacing between automation systems and CNC machine tools.
  5. CNC Machine Tending Solutions: Design and program systems for efficient machine tending operations.
  6. Robot Programming: Program FANUC robots and utilize offline robot programming and simulation tools.
  7. HMI Development: Create advanced, user-friendly HMIs tailored to specific system requirements.
  8. Documentation Management: Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including system specifications, E-CAD schematics, and user manuals.
  9. Collaboration & Support: Work with cross-functional teams to design, test, and refine systems. Provide training and support to end-users and maintenance staff.
  10. Technology Adoption: Stay informed on emerging technologies, integrating innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and performance.
  11. Understanding of Networks & Cybersecurity: Knowledge of managed and unmanaged IT and OT customer networks, with a strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.

Qualifications / Skills
  1. HNC/HND qualified in a related field (Mechatronics, Automation or Electrical Engineering).
  2. Demonstrable experience working within machine tool automation projects.
  3. Expertise in PLC and Robot (Fanuc) Programming.
  4. Knowledge of Hydraulics, Pneumatics and control systems for CNC machinery.
