About the Role: At Engineering Vehicles, you will work on hundreds of assets across several different asset types, servicing 1,050km of track supporting 1.4bn journeys a year.

Entry Requirements
  • You should already hold or be working towards a minimum of 2 GCSEs A*-C/ grade 4 or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English language.
  • You are not eligible for this scheme if you currently hold or are undertaking the same Apprenticeship Standard.
  • You will be required to provide original certificates and/or predicted grades as proof for your eligibility checks.
  • You must be 18 by 8th September 2025 to be eligible for this scheme.

Medical Requirements: If you receive an offer for this apprenticeship, it will be subject to a satisfactory medical, which may include drugs and alcohol screening, hearing test, and eyesight tests including Ishihara Plates and Colour Assessment.

Job Overview

Our Engineers focus on the assets that form the foundation of our transport system. You will be trained in engineering principles in mechanical and electrical systems while working on multiple engineering mechanised rolling stock, from diesel to battery locomotives.

What Will I Be Doing?

Your 3-year development programme will include placement rotations and training, aiming to equip you with the skills and experience needed for a successful career. Here’s an idea of what your journey could look like:

Year 1

Settling into London Underground with 3 months at our partner college in Enfield, followed by safety training and shadowing training maintainers at Ruislip Transplant depot.

Year 2

Hands-on experience focusing mainly at Ruislip, with opportunities for short placements across the network and evidence submission for qualifications.

Year 3

Continue rotating placements while completing your qualifications and presenting your work to an external engineering institute.

Career Progression

Upon successful completion, you could transition into a Train Maintainer position, leading to further opportunities such as Advanced Train Maintainer or Team Leader.

Training and Support

You will work towards a Level 3 qualification in Railway Engineering Technician (Rolling stock) and attend Conel college on block release. Support includes technical development, professional development, mentoring, and networking opportunities.

What Do We Look For?

We seek analytical thinkers with a willingness to learn. The apprenticeship scheme will involve working shift hours, including early, late, night, and weekend shifts.
