Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at Bradford Teaching Hospitals. We are seeking a consultant with drive, commitment, and enthusiasm who will bring a consistent focus to high performance and quality of care, working collaboratively with colleagues and providing clinical leadership to the wider team.

This is a 10PA post in the respiratory service to cover the 12-month maternity leave of an existing consultant. It includes outpatient work, both in general and specialist respiratory services, and inpatient work on a “Consultant of the Week” rota.

Applications should contain details of GMC registration and CCT (or evidence of eligibility to apply for CCT including CESR applicants) along with names and addresses of three referees (one of which should be your current or most recent employer). If you are currently a substantive consultant, we require one of your referees to be either the Medical Director or Chief Executive. If you are currently a Specialty Registrar, we require one of your referees to be your Training Programme Director.

Main duties of the job

The appointee is expected to have a CCT or equivalent in Respiratory Medicine, or be within 6 months of obtaining this, and will be expected to have a wide range of experience in all aspects of respiratory and general medicine. The appointee will work alongside the existing team to provide comprehensive service provision.

Duties will involve delivery of outpatient clinics and service development. Additionally, the appointee will provide cover for the dedicated ward by delivering ward rounds and providing specialist advice to other areas of Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The consultant whose maternity leave the appointee is covering currently leads on Interstitial Lung Disease and supports the Severe Asthma Service, led by Prof Saralaya. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have an active interest in one or both of these services.

The appointee will be expected to participate in the student teaching rota, administrative duties associated with the care of their patients, participate in the running of the department in collaboration with consultant colleagues, and communicate with local practitioners, supporting nursing and other AHP members of the team.

The appointee will be expected to take an active interest in clinical governance, maintaining medical excellence and management, and service development. Clinical audit is a mandatory requirement within the Trust, and the appointee will be expected to attend and participate in audit and clinical governance.

Experience

  • Evidence of completing a period of approved training in Respiratory Medicine

Skills

  • Ability to perform the requirements of the post

Knowledge

  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Understanding of equality and diversity issues and how this affects patients, visitors, and staff
  • Understanding of what the NHS Constitution means to you, and your responsibilities to the public, patients, and colleagues
  • An active interest in asthma and/or interstitial lung disease

Qualifications

  • MBChB or equivalent
  • MRCP or FRCS or equivalent to specialty (UK) or equivalent CCT or within 6 months of AAC date
  • On Specialist Register with GMC and continue to hold a licence to practice
  • Research and/or Fellowships

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
