Gloucestershire Hospitals is inviting applications for a full time Locum Consultant Haematologist post, developed as an additional post to manage workload growth.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Haematologist to join an established team of 9 consultants who provide a full range of diagnostic and clinical haematology services, and manage inpatients to BCSH Level 3.
The post is a general Haematology post covering all areas of district general Haematology practice. However, a sub-specialist interest would be expected to complement and support the existing Haematology Consultant establishment, in line with well-developed specialist pathways and teams. The department would particularly welcome candidates with an interest in haemostasis and thrombosis.
The successful postholder will be supported in continuing professional development and will join a JACIE accredited service with an established transplant team. The department has a strong portfolio of trials and is supported by an active cancer clinical trials research team.
The department prides itself on being a cohesive, collaborative and supportive place to work and would warmly welcome the right candidate. Applications will also be considered from those who wish to work part time and flexible working arrangements will be considered.
The Consultant team consists of 9 consultants and is supported by 2 - 3 NTN Specialist Registrars, 3 - 4 Specialty Doctors, 1 Clinical fellow and 1 ST1/2, with additional junior medical staff covering the ward. We have recently expanded the nursing team to 1 Macmillan Advanced Nurse Practitioner, 1 Transfusion Practitioner and 7 Specialist Nurses, covering transplant, MPN, myeloma, lymphoma, myeloid disorders and haemoglobinopathy. The team are also well supported by 3 non-medical prescribing pharmacists.
The successful candidate will join an established team within the Trust, working closely with Oncology and other specialities within the Trust as required.
The post-holder will provide specialist Haematology services, together with appropriate teaching and supervision of junior doctors and medical students. He/she will be expected to work closely with general practitioners and hospital-based medical and laboratory staff to provide a seamless service and deliver high quality patient care.
This includes managing inpatients to BCSH Level 3 care at the Regional Cancer Centre based at Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) on a rotational basis, though the post will include duties at both CGH and Gloucester Royal Hospital.
The post is available at 10 PAs per week including on-call commitments shared with the other 8 consultant colleagues on the rota, 1:8 depending on the agreed job plan. Whole-time, part-time or job share applicants welcome.
