Locum Consultant in Geriatric Medicine (Special Interest in Frailty)

This post is for a Locum Consultant in Geriatric Medicine. This is a whole-time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
Joining the team of Geriatricians the role covers the varied offer across the Frailty department, covering Acute Frailty Unit, Ambulatory care, two rehab/ re-ablement wards, as well as our Frailty virtual ward, making it an exciting and varied role, embracing innovative practice and evolving offers of care.
They will work closely with the Frailty Medical lead and Clinical Director to deliver the Trust's Clinical Strategy and develop clinical services to ensure they deliver the best possible care for patients.
Main duties of the job
The Role will require the applicant to be based in Whiston Hospital. The successful candidate will be expected to support the day-to-day clinical management of patients by a full MDT including ACPs, medical staff, therapy and nursing. There will be a weekly MDT and daily board round which should be attended by the consultant during their sessional allocation. The ward also accepts referrals for liaison assessment in other wards (OPAL), and the applicant will be required to support remote assessment of these patients be the medical/ACP workforce and help clinical rationale for transfer onto a frailty ward. Once weekly the applicant will be expected to cover the ambulatory frailty unit for 2 sessions, reviewing patients admitted there from a variety of sources after medical or frailty practitioner review. The applicant should expect to participate with the clinical supervision and development of all of the AHP workforce, and lead by example in setting standards of care.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Full GMC registration at time of appointment
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCP or equivalent medical qualification
- Valid Advance Life Support (ALS) Provider Status (as applicable)
- Specialty Certificate Examination in Frailty Medicine
- MD/PHD or equivalent medical qualification
Experience
- Evidence of achievement of competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice including: Good clinical care, Maintaining good medical practice, Good relationships and communication with patients, Good working relationships with colleagues, Good teaching and training, Professional behaviour and probity, Delivery of good acute clinical care
- Extensive experience as a Consultant in Frailty

- Demonstrates excellent communication with patients and colleagues
- Appropriate knowledge base and ability to sound clinical judgement to problems
- Demonstrates the necessary range, depth and breadth of competencies specified in the Department of Medicine for Older People including Frailty curriculum and applying to this post
- Demonstrates ability to undertake robust audit and/or research within team structure
- Evidence of appropriate teaching experience
- Evidence of relevant academic achievements, e.g. degrees, awards
