Locum Consultant in Clinical Oncology - Breast and Urological cancers (NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant) - Clinical Oncology - The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust – West Midlands

This post supports the breast and urological MDT’s at New Cross Hospital Wolverhampton and Russell’s Hall Hospital, Dudley.

The post holder will see approximately 100 new Breast and 100 urological patients a year. Secretarial support, designated office space and appropriate IT equipment will be provided.

The post will be based at the New Cross Hospital and the patients will be seen in clinics at New Cross Hospital and will be treated at New Cross Hospital for radiotherapy and systemic treatments.

The successful candidate will be expected to work with professional colleagues and local managers to provide an Oncology service to Wolverhampton and Russells Hall hospitals. The principal duties of the post will include:

  1. Provision of a Clinical Oncology service for breast and urological cancers for Wolverhampton and Russells Hall Hospital;
  2. Participation in the multidisciplinary team meetings relevant to the post;
  3. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to provide a service in Clinical Oncology with responsibility for breast and urological cancers;
  4. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to play a full part in the out-of-hours On-Call service for the department, including being on-call for telephone advice and major incidents;
  5. To provide cover for Consultant and Senior colleagues in respect of periods of leave;
  6. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate;
  7. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met;
  8. To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.

In conjunction with Divisional Manager, Consultant and Senior Colleagues, to take an active role in the management of the Division:

  1. In conjunction with the Divisional Manager, Consultant & Senior colleagues, to play a full part in developing & implementing new ways of working in line with modernisation principles and fit for the future;
  2. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department;
  3. To observe the Trust’s agreed policies and procedures, in particular in relation to managing staff, and to follow the Trust’s Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions.
