Locum Appointment for Service (LAS) in Psychiatry within Rehabilitation Psychiatry

(Fixed Term Appointment until August 2025)

At Livewell Southwest CIC (LSW), our aim is to give the best possible care & support to people in the place they want to be and at the right time to enable them to live the best lives they can.

LSW is an integrated organisation providing community, mental health and social care to the residents of Plymouth. It also provides community healthcare to West Devon and South Hams. We are a social enterprise used to working across boundaries for the NHS patients we serve. LSW employs 70 doctors and has a robust line management and revalidation structure. We are a high trust organisation with delegated leadership.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work in 2 in-patient open recovery units of 9-beds and will be supported by a Consultant Rehabilitation Psychiatrist who covers both units. One unit (female) is based on a non-acute hospital site and the other (male) is in the community.

Suitable candidates will be registered with the GMC, with a licence to practice and have a minimum of six months experience in psychiatry.

Although this post is not recognised for training, it does offer sound supervision and experience. You may be considering going into core psychiatry or primary care training or just be interested in gaining greater experience outside an acute hospital. This role will offer you the ability to gain the experience you need for advancing your career in your chosen specialty.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Competence in basic clinical procedures
  • Able to prioritise clinical need
  • Aware of own limitations & knows when to consult senior colleagues
  • Understands the principles of patient confidentiality & data protection
  • Understands the need for & appreciates the role of audit and clinical governance in clinical practice
  • Able to play an effective part in ensuring, on a day-to-day basis, that care is of good quality, safe & appropriate to the needs of the patients
  • Understands the importance of working effectively in teams
  • Complies with GMC GMP guidance
Desirable

  • Knowledge of UK health systems, practices & values; awareness of current issues in the NHS
  • Understands the importance & impact of information systems in health care
Qualifications

Essential

  • Has achieved MBBS or equivalent
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of applying for the post
  • Satisfactory completion of FY2 post (or equivalent evidence of competence at the time of application)
Desirable

  • Distinctions, scholarships, prizes
  • Experience in Psychiatry at resident doctor level
