The Agape Center for Local & Global Engagement invites individuals with an interest in service and community engagement to serve as a Reading Tutor. Reading Tutors will support the efforts of local community partners who offer after-school programming for at-risk children and/or organizations which focus on adult language learning and literacy specifically serving immigrant and refugee families in central PA. Reading Tutors will support one of the following local agencies: Salvation Army After-School Program; PAIRWN; Catholic Charities; Bethesda Community Center; or Church World Services-Harrisburg.
No prior experience required.
Strong conversational English skills; ability to work with children in groups or in a 1:1 setting. Must possess cultural sensitivity, patience, and flexibility. Dependability and consistency is required to support student language learning and reading goals.
Casual, but clean and neat appearance at all times. Follow the dress code of the community partner agency.
Ability to work remotely, as this is an off-campus position. Must complete all necessary training, paperwork and clearances required of the community partner agency.
