Job Title:
Litigation Paralegal

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Litigation assistance
  2. Prepare draft pleadings, subpoenas, deposition notices, and court-ordered documents, including initial disclosures, witness lists, exhibit lists, preliminary reports, status reports, scheduling orders, pre-trial orders, etc.
  3. Manage and work on discovery, including investigating, organizing and preparing interrogatories, requests for production, and discovery responses
  4. Schedule witness interviews and depositions; gather documents and assist in preparation for same; arrange court reporters for deposition; summarize depositions
  5. Assist in retaining, communicating with and obtaining relevant information from or for expert
  6. Administrative support such as managing calendar, handling payment of invoices, and vendor payments
  7. Schedule meetings
  8. Make travel arrangements
  9. Handle attorney calls and mail
  10. Draft letters
  11. Make revisions to documents
  12. Prepare binders and other administrative/litigation support
  13. Document and file management, including organizing, indexing and filing documents and Bates Stamp as appropriate
  14. Manage attorney calendar for litigation, advices and projects
  15. Schedule deadlines from court scheduling orders
  16. Manage and prioritize a variety of calls and meetings
  17. Provide attorneys with advanced notice of upcoming deadlines, meetings, etc.
  18. Prepare and track litigation hold letters
  19. Factual and legal research
  20. Investigate and assemble facts and other data for legal matters
  21. Perform legal research on Westlaw or in other reference materials and perform other necessary factual research on internet, etc.
  22. Input, retrieve and manage electronic documents on the department drives as well as in software programs such as Documentum
  23. Proofread and edit documents.
  24. Summarize, where necessary, voluminous records
  25. Analyze & compile data in form required by attorneys (e.g., charts, etc.)
  26. Become knowledgeable about issues in, and contents of, all litigation and other files assigned
  27. Draft reports, as needed, relating to status of employment and labor law matters and maintain detailed, up-to-date information relating to such matters

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum education required of this position:
  1. Paralegal degree/certificate and/or bachelor's degree

Minimum experience required of this position:
  1. Paralegal II: 5+ years of paralegal experience, with a minimum of two years at a law firm, performing litigation support preferred

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position:
  1. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint and in Documentum
  2. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and in a professional manner
  3. Ability to work quickly and accurately under deadlines/pressure
  4. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to multi-task and work productively as a member of multi-disciplinary team
  5. Demonstrated research, writing and editing skills as well as oral presentation skills and experience in management of complex data systems
  6. Ability to work with others at all levels
  7. Maintain confidentiality of departmental issues
  8. Attention to detail
  9. Regular and reliable attendance
  10. Assignments may, but do not normally include overtime and/or weekend hours
  11. Perform work outside of these duties, as needed, for storm, restoration or other emergency events
  12. Ability to work in a remote/telecommuting environment.

Exempt employees may not be paid overtime associated with such duties.
