JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Litigation assistance
- Prepare draft pleadings, subpoenas, deposition notices, and court-ordered documents, including initial disclosures, witness lists, exhibit lists, preliminary reports, status reports, scheduling orders, pre-trial orders, etc.
- Manage and work on discovery, including investigating, organizing and preparing interrogatories, requests for production, and discovery responses
- Schedule witness interviews and depositions; gather documents and assist in preparation for same; arrange court reporters for deposition; summarize depositions
- Assist in retaining, communicating with and obtaining relevant information from or for expert
- Administrative support such as managing calendar, handling payment of invoices, and vendor payments
- Schedule meetings
- Make travel arrangements
- Handle attorney calls and mail
- Draft letters
- Make revisions to documents
- Prepare binders and other administrative/litigation support
- Document and file management, including organizing, indexing and filing documents and Bates Stamp as appropriate
- Manage attorney calendar for litigation, advices and projects
- Schedule deadlines from court scheduling orders
- Manage and prioritize a variety of calls and meetings
- Provide attorneys with advanced notice of upcoming deadlines, meetings, etc.
- Prepare and track litigation hold letters
- Factual and legal research
- Investigate and assemble facts and other data for legal matters
- Perform legal research on Westlaw or in other reference materials and perform other necessary factual research on internet, etc.
- Input, retrieve and manage electronic documents on the department drives as well as in software programs such as Documentum
- Proofread and edit documents.
- Summarize, where necessary, voluminous records
- Analyze & compile data in form required by attorneys (e.g., charts, etc.)
- Become knowledgeable about issues in, and contents of, all litigation and other files assigned
- Draft reports, as needed, relating to status of employment and labor law matters and maintain detailed, up-to-date information relating to such matters
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Minimum education required of this position:- Paralegal degree/certificate and/or bachelor's degree
Minimum experience required of this position:- Paralegal II: 5+ years of paralegal experience, with a minimum of two years at a law firm, performing litigation support preferred
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position:- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint and in Documentum
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and in a professional manner
- Ability to work quickly and accurately under deadlines/pressure
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to multi-task and work productively as a member of multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrated research, writing and editing skills as well as oral presentation skills and experience in management of complex data systems
- Ability to work with others at all levels
- Maintain confidentiality of departmental issues
- Attention to detail
- Regular and reliable attendance
- Assignments may, but do not normally include overtime and/or weekend hours
- Perform work outside of these duties, as needed, for storm, restoration or other emergency events
- Ability to work in a remote/telecommuting environment.
