Linux Software Engineer

Bristol

Salary: Circa £50,000 - £650,000 depending on experience

Package:

1. Bonus of up to - circa £2,000

Our client is a world-leading, technical engineering organisation, that currently has a fantastic opportunity for a Linux Software Engineer (Embedded / Middleware). The company is an award-winning business that invests heavily in its staff, offering training, personal development and career progression opportunities. The opportunity:

1. They're a driven team with a passion for software and its successful deployment in battlespace Command and Control (C2) weapon systems.
2. They're looking for a capable, adaptable and inquisitive Embedded/Middleware software engineer to join a small talented team to develop middleware solutions for the next generation of products.
3. Their products require Linux Operating System (OS) migration, configuration and security solutions implementing, so a good experience of Linux is essential for this position.
4. You'll work with cutting edge technologies across a range of land and maritime defence projects.
5. You'll develop solutions targeting a large range of problems from hardware drivers to web services.
6. You'll work across multiple applications on numerous projects in the systems software department.

You're a Linux Software Engineer with:

1. Proven experience with C or C++ (at least one of these is crucial), or in Ada, and/or JavaScript, shell scripting languages.
2. Strong background in software engineering.
3. Experience configuring, securing and maintaining Linux OSs (Redhat and/or Ubuntu) including Kernel configuration and Kernel test.
4. Knowledge of software design differences between Real-Time OSs and Hypervisors is beneficial.
5. Comfortable working collaboratively in a team environment and contributing to design and implementation decisions.
6. Experience in the development of software for Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) hardware and be comfortable working with target system hardware.
