The role of the Line Engineering Lead is to implement and/or maintain and continuously improve the maintenance planning and scheduling (MPS) and breakdown elimination (BDE) daily management system (DMS) for their area, coach line teams to improve technical ability, and provide a continuity link to other Progressive Maintenance (PM) systems.


Responsibilities

  • Ensure the lines are not constrained due to the lack of technical capability or knowledge.
  • Ensure all maintenance tasks are planned, organized, and executed with the least effort at the best cost.
  • Transfer knowledge to the line teams, ensuring that the proper level of skills and qualifications successfully deploy the loss elimination skills needed for the line to deliver the line and team goals.
  • Provide coaching, teaching, and assessment of the Progressive Maintenance (PM) and the Autonomous Maintenance (AM) Steps implementation.
  • Plan and schedule maintenance work, reviewing and prioritizing SAP work orders and notifications within 24 hours of generation.
  • Ensure that the work order backlog is current and sorted for reporting, managing how best to meet the compelling business need (CBN).
  • Track and report maintenance indicator results and in-process measures.
  • Ensure all equipment design change proposals (corrective maintenance) and adding/deleting/modifying work follow-up change management (CM) procedures.
  • Develop improvement plans by identifying through the tracking of maintenance indicators and in-process measures.
  • Identify losses and improvement themes to eliminate losses.
  • Own, develop, and track improvement theme action plans.
  • Champion and lead the continuous improvement (CI) process.
  • Reduce the number of breakdowns due to improper maintenance overhaul/restoration procedures.
  • Improve downtime due to scheduled maintenance being optimized, reduced, and at a target to deliver line goals in support of the compelling business need.
  • Update standards and procedures; maintenance costs (parts and labor) reduced and in line with budget.
  • Control and predict equipment performance due to a percentage increase of planned maintenance work.

Qualifications

  • Experience from a FMCG or similar production/manufacturing environment is ideal.
  • Ability to influence technicians, line operation leads, and process engineers as required.
  • Ability to teach, coach, and develop others.
  • On-the-floor technical credibility with the people doing the work.
  • Effective communication skills, including active listening and the ability to positively confront and be assertive when necessary.
  • Passion for the work, with the drive and ability to help others see the losses.
  • Commitment to self-development required for the role.
  • Integrated work system (IWS) and operational experience and skills, or the ability to quickly build the skills of at least the phase in which the plant or facility is currently working.
  • Line assignment experience in manufacturing, capable of operating the equipment and owning an area or piece of equipment as necessary.
  • Flexible mindset, willing to flow with the work and cover training and breaks as required to deliver the line key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Willingness to actively participate in planned stops and changeovers (COs), flowing to the work as required.
  • Having a work process improvement (WPI) Level 4 capability is highly desirable.
