The Society of Solicitors in the Supreme Courts of Scotland is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive individual to work as part of a small team in a private law library in the heart of Edinburgh.
About The SSC Society
The SSC is a professional organisation of solicitors and solicitor-advocates founded in 1784, serving a membership which practises throughout Scotland. It is based in Parliament House which also houses the Supreme Courts of Scotland and has its own private library available to members, together with a meeting room for training, consultations and social events.

About the Role
The SSC Society is currently modernising and redesigning its services for members and the Library is undergoing a major revamp. The successful candidate will support the Librarian in delivering a modern, professional library service to Society members.
You will be responsible for daily library maintenance tasks such as filing library material and processing new acquisitions, as well as updating loose-leaf publications on a regular basis.
You will carry out regular administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of the organisation. This will include management of member records and database and communications to members.
You will be a first point of contact for general and library enquiries via telephone, email or in person.
You will contribute to documenting library working practices and processes.
You will assist the librarian in large projects relating to assessing, reorganising and cataloguing of the collections.
You will have the opportunity to develop your legal knowledge through online learning and assisting the librarian with legal and historical research using print sources and legal databases.
You will develop and maintain your own skills and knowledge through attending courses, networking and membership of professional bodies.
You will provide basic cover for the Librarian as required.
Experience/Qualifications/ Skills
You will be educated to a minimum of HND level (or equivalent) and ideally have experience of working in a library or information-based environment.
You will have good IT skills with experience of Microsoft Office products, especially Excel and Outlook.
You will have good verbal and written communication skills with experience of handling customer enquiries.
You will have proven ability to manage your time effectively and to meet deadlines.
Experience of or interest in law libraries is desirable.
