LGV Driver - Tramping

Company Description

Contract: Permanent 40 Hours Per Week minimum
Hourly Rate: GBP15.28ph + GBP2.52ph additional night rate between 18:00 to 06:00 + GBP19.86 subsistence allowance per day + GBP8.81 food allowance per day.
Location: DPD Southampton, Unit 1, Hamilton Business Park, Hedge End, Southampton, SO30 2J
Days of Work: Monday to Friday
Shift Window: 12:00 - 21:00

Job Description

As a Class 1 Tramper driver, you'll be responsible for:

1. Making bulk collections & deliveries between various DPD sites and customers nationwide
2. Operating and maintaining a modern fleet of vehicles on an agreed shift pattern
3. Delivering palette loads to HGV-friendly locations efficiently and safely
4. Completing a minimum of 4 nights per week, sleeping in your vehicle at one of our secure locations
5. Covering a set region surrounding your base depot
6. Conducting thorough pre-trip inspections of your vehicle to ensure roadworthiness
7. Accurately completing all required paperwork, including delivery notes and vehicle logs
8. Adhering to all UK road traffic laws and regulations, including drivers' hours rules
9. Maintaining excellent communication with the transport office, customers, and other drivers
10. Representing DPD professionally at all times, providing exceptional customer service
11. Reporting any incidents, accidents, or near-misses promptly and accurately
12. Participating in regular safety briefings and training sessions as required
13. Assisting with loading and unloading of goods when necessary, following proper manual handling procedures
14. Ensuring the security of the vehicle and its load at all times
15. Adapting to changing route requirements and weather conditions as needed

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

1. A valid UK Class 1 Driving Licence
2. Minimum 12 months Class 1 experience
3. A valid UK CPC Card
4. A valid UK Digital Tachograph Card
5. Someone who demonstrates the core DPD DNA values of Passion, Respect, Honesty, Flexibility, Caring and Accountability
6. Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently
7. Strong geographical knowledge of UK roads and motorways
8. Proficiency in using satellite navigation systems
9. Physical fitness to handle loading and unloading of goods when required
10. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
11. A clean driving record with no major traffic violations
12. Flexibility to work varying shifts when required
13. Basic mechanical knowledge for conducting vehicle inspections and minor repairs
14. Ability to maintain accurate logs and complete necessary paperwork
15. Commitment to maintaining a high standard of vehicle cleanliness and presentation
