Metrology Apprentice
Level: 3
Company: Rolls-Royce Motor Cars
Starting Salary: £18,900
Programme duration: 3 years. Commencing August 2025
Hours: 40 per week. Start and finish times will vary to meet the needs of your work-based placements and college.
Location: Goodwood, West Sussex
The Role
The Metrology department ensures that components meet the required specifications. Metrology supports all areas of production, engineering, aftersales, and suppliers as well as providing complex root cause problem analysis.
You will work alongside a highly knowledgeable team to analyze complex topics from a geometrical perspective and understand where problems are coming from. By the end of the apprenticeship, you will be a confident and fully qualified, experienced metrologist with excellent personal and communication skills.
The academic aspect of this apprenticeship is delivered by Chichester College.
Craft Skills
Car design and creation at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is like nothing else in the industry. The apprenticeship features a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience of all aspects of car design and creation. You will spend 2 days per week (in the first term) completing a ‘craft skills’ course which includes woodwork, sewing, mechanics, metal work, and CAD. During this time, you will work towards the following qualifications: Health and Safety, Preparing to Learn, Reflective Practice, and Electrical Vehicle Awareness.
Who are we looking for?
An interest in engineering, computers, programming, 3D printing, and CAD will be very valuable in this position. An inquisitive nature will help you understand and identify why a part is not performing and chase down the potential solutions. The following skills and interests will be important:
Required Qualifications
English, Maths, and a Science GCSE at grade 4 is required.

The next stage is a Video Interview. You can complete this at any time of day during your five-day invitation window and you will be recorded answering a set of questions. The first question is just for you to get used to recording yourself and is not assessed. Following completion of the Video Interview, successful applicants will be shortlisted and invited to a face-to-face Assessment Centre with Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Provisionally, the Assessment Centre is due to take place between 22nd and 30th April 2025.
