Role Overview:
As a Level 2 Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the classroom teacher in delivering high-quality education to students. You will specifically work with children who have SEMH needs, helping them to manage their emotions, build resilience, and engage with the curriculum. Your role will involve providing 1:1 and small group support, assisting in the delivery of interventions, and creating a positive and safe learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide 1:1 or small group support to students with SEMH needs, assisting them with their learning and emotional development.
  2. Help to implement strategies and interventions designed to support students with SEMH, including behavioural management and emotional regulation.
  3. Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering lessons, ensuring that the needs of all students, especially those with SEMH, are met.
  4. Support students in developing their social and emotional skills, encouraging positive behaviour and self-regulation.
  5. Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents when required.
  6. Build strong relationships with students, fostering trust and a positive learning environment.
  7. Collaborate with other staff, including SENCOs, psychologists, and external professionals, to ensure effective support for students with SEMH.
  8. Promote inclusion and a sense of belonging for all students within the school.
  9. Provide pastoral support, helping students to overcome personal challenges and barriers to learning.
  10. Maintain a safe and engaging classroom environment, promoting positive behaviour and respect for others.
  11. Attend and contribute to team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Person Specification:

  1. Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is essential.
  2. Experience working with students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs is highly desirable.
  3. Knowledge of SEMH strategies and interventions, including behaviour management techniques and emotional regulation.
  4. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents.
  5. Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with children who may present challenging behaviours.
  6. A proactive approach to supporting student's academic, social, and emotional development.
  7. Ability to work well as part of a team and contribute to a positive and collaborative school environment.
  8. Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  9. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
