Job description

With 24 years of leading industry experience, SMS Environmental, a leading water treatment and air quality management company specialising in Legionella control, ranks within the top 5% of water treatment providers within the UK.

Due to exciting company growth, we are now looking for a Legionella Risk Assessor to join our growing team. You will help to deliver water system surveys and risk assessments to a variety of community-based customers, working across a wide range of building types including individual residences, small offices, large schools, commercial properties, care homes, and healthcare facilities. These roles are field-based, and regular travel will be a core part of our role across South Coast areas.

In return, we offer a competitive base salary up to £35,000 per annum, a 37.5-hour working week (Monday - Friday), paid overtime based at 27.5% of project value, a company vehicle, a fuel card, 30 days paid annual leave (including UK bank holidays), and multiple opportunities to progress within the team or throughout our wider business.

Your Legionella Risk Assessor role:

  • Ensuring customer and business compliance with ACoP L8, HSG274 part 2, BS 8580-1, and other relevant industry standards and guidance.
  • Promoting and supporting Health & Safety regulatory standards and practices at site and in our service delivery.
  • Problem solving/diagnosing faults within plumbing systems and making recommendations for maintenance and remedial work where appropriate.
  • Co-ordinating with the internal SMS Quality Control/Assurance team to ensure delivery of related documentation to regulatory standards.
Requirements
Essential:
  • Career history within the Water Hygiene Industry and/or conducting Risk Assessments.
  • Built key client relationships to identify types and levels of Legionella.
  • Effectively communicated details of Legionella and provided client-focused solutions.
  • Monitoring risks and competent knowledge of UK Health & Safety regulatory legislation and practice.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly within Apple applications.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable:
  • Approved Legionella Risk Assessor Qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, BOHS, WMSoc; certification can be arranged for an experienced candidate).
All roles at SMS require a DBS check; SMS Environmental will cover the cost of this if you do not already hold a valid DBS certificate.

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum, plus paid overtime at 27.5% of project value.
