Job description

Our client based in Braintree, Essex are seeking to recruit a permanent Legal Secretary who has worked within a Conveyancing department.


As the Legal Secretary you will be responsible for:

  1. Prepare correspondence and documents through audio-typing and word processing.
  2. Administer filing which will include daily filing and the opening, closing, storage and retrieval of client files in accordance with the detailed procedures contained in the office manual.
  3. Prepare mail and enclosures for dispatch.
  4. Arrange for all copying to be done, in person if the office assistant is not available to undertake the task.
  5. Make appointments, arrange meetings and maintain an up-to-date diary for his/her principal.
  6. Prepare the conference room for meetings as necessary and for the tidying and clearance of the room at the end of the meeting.
  7. Provide refreshments when asked to do so.
  8. Provide support to other secretaries as required.
  9. Provide guidance to junior and temporary secretaries when required to do so.
  10. Attend clients both in person and on the telephone and provide such support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the firm's standards for client care.
  11. Undertake any specific training when required to do so and overall to have a responsibility towards self-development.
  12. Ensure the confidentiality of all the firm's and clients documentation and information.

Key skills required for this position include:

  1. Previous conveyancing secretarial experience
  2. Appropriate literacy skills.
  3. Good communication skills.
  4. Suitable standard of keyboard and IT skills.
  5. Ability to work in a team.

Hours are Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.30pm.
