Legal Director - Construction

About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Non-Contentious Construction Legal Director to join a high-performing and highly regarded legal team in Manchester. In this key position, you will be responsible for providing strategic, high-level legal advice to a range of clients in the construction and infrastructure sectors. Your role will focus on non-contentious matters, including contract negotiation, drafting, and project support, whilst collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide expert legal advice on non-contentious construction matters, including contract negotiation, drafting, and review, ensuring compliance with current legislation and industry best practices.
2. Support clients on a variety of projects, from inception through to completion, offering practical solutions to complex construction-related issues.
3. Draft and review contracts, including building contracts, professional appointments, and related documentation.
4. Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders to manage project risks and ensure successful delivery.
5. Assist clients with procurement strategies and the formation of effective project teams.
6. Maintain strong client relationships and support business development efforts within the construction sector.
7. Lead and mentor junior lawyers and trainees, fostering a collaborative and supportive working environment.

Skills & Experience:

1. Significant experience in non-contentious construction law, gained in a leading law firm or in-house legal team.
2. A deep understanding of construction law, contract law, and the construction industry, with practical experience advising on a wide range of projects.
3. Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, with a focus on clarity and precision.
4. Ability to manage complex legal issues and provide pragmatic, commercially focused solutions.
5. Proven track record of working with a wide range of clients, including developers, contractors, consultants, and public sector bodies.
6. Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities with the ability to inspire and support junior colleagues.
7. A proactive and forward-thinking approach to business development.
