Job Description

As Legal Counsel, your role will encompass all areas of law arising in the operation of the business. Responsibilities include:

• Identifying legal risks within the company and advising on appropriate ways to manage and mitigate such risks that are relevant and proportionate to the organisation and its activities.
• Preparing, negotiating, drafting, revising, and finalising various contract documents including Terms of Service and a range of terms and conditions to support business activities.
• Advising on a range of non-contentious contract, commercial, and procurement-related issues, including NDAs.
• Providing advice on intellectual property matters (including trademarks) and supporting external advisers managing the trademark portfolio.
• Advising the Information Governance team on data governance and FOI matters.
• Providing advice on matters relating to liability, including company insurance.
• Providing legal support to commercial activities such as prize draws and gambling, Advertising Standards, Equality Impact Assessments, and escalations via the complaints procedure.
• Supporting the Head of Legal and Governance and Senior Legal Counsel in preparing and delivering training in legal matters across the business.
• Collaborating with the Head of Legal and Governance to instruct and manage external counsel and other third parties.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Legal Counsel should have:

• A degree in law and admission to practice law.
• Profound knowledge of legal principles and procedures.
• Exceptional contract drafting and negotiation skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A proactive approach and the ability to work independently.
• Familiarity with the Not For Profit sector would be advantageous.
