Legal Counsel – Commercial Contract Team

It’s an exciting time for Capita and we’ve got a great opportunity for a qualified UK lawyer or equivalent jurisdiction to join our Commercial Contract team working on both Public and private sector contracts as a Legal Counsel.

We’re looking for a strong commercial contracts lawyer, with a broad range of corporate legal experience, preferably in an in-house role. PQE 2-5 years.

Experience with AI and IP would be an advantage – software, SaaS – “software as a service”, IT procurement, outsourcing within the IT space.

Job Description

What we’re looking for:

  • A Qualified UK lawyer with experience in commercial contracts, ideally in both the public and private sectors
  • PQE 2-5 years
  • Sound legal, commercial, business and negotiating acumen with strong technical legal skills.
  • Some experience advising on and being familiar with standard public sector outsourcing agreements and playbooks including the model services contracts, crown commercial services agreements and the cabinet office playbooks and public procurement notes, SaaS (Software as a Service) would be preferable
  • You should possess an understanding of the AI landscape and have sound knowledge of intellectual property (IP).
  • Be highly responsive, proactive, solution-oriented attitude to resolving business issues.
  • Confident project management and prioritisation skills. Able to work without supervision.
  • Be collaborative and approachable with strong interpersonal skills.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing accurate, timely and pragmatic legal advice in the areas of law applicable to the role including AI and IP. Being a trusted legal business partner able to build good relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Identifying where judicious decisions are needed on key decision points in contract or dispute negotiations, with escalations to relevant individuals where appropriate.
  • Supporting Legal Directors Legal and SLC on all projects and transactions and briefing them on areas of concern to ensure a “no surprises” culture.
  • Drafting contracts, amendments to contracts, legal correspondence and advice notes.
  • Attending meetings with clients, stakeholders and presenting at those meetings as well as contributing to Team and Function wide meetings.
  • Promoting the use of Capita policies, standards, processes and best practice terms and contributing to the development, implementation and maintenance of legal policies and standards.
  • Assisting with internal reporting and ad-hoc projects.
  • Performing all duties in the spirit of Capita’s purpose and values and in line with Capita’s Code of Conduct.
