About this role
Capital One is excited to have a new opportunity for an in-house lawyer within the UK Legal Team to advise on supplier and other commercial contracts.
Our Contracts team within Legal plays a key role in managing risk when we are engaging suppliers who work for Capital One. As a financial institution, ensuring robust supplier contracts is essential. To complement our existing team, we are looking for a strong team player with great communication skills, contract drafting and negotiating experience and commercial acumen. Reporting to a senior Contracts lawyer within Legal, you'll provide legal advice on contracts between Capital One and a variety of third parties, in particular advising on significant outsourcing agreements and other key operational and support services agreements.
What you'll do
- Prepare and negotiate contractual arrangements, including outsourced and other services agreements, data sharing arrangements, software-as-a-service terms, software licences, terms and conditions of purchase, variation agreements, termination agreements and renewals, using Capital One's precedents as well as reviewing and negotiating supplier terms where appropriate
- Advise on, and support the business in relation to risks in relation to third party contracting
- Supervise and mentor junior team members in relation to contract drafting and legal advice
- Develop and maintain great working relationships with third party and sourcing managers as well as key business contacts, in Capital One UK and where appropriate within our US parent company
- Advise on financial services regulation specific to third party contracts, escalating to our legal regulatory specialists where necessary
- Identify and assess the impact of new laws related to contracting and train other business areas where appropriate
- Manage your workload in a timely and effective manner and proactively communicate to stakeholders on progress
- Advise on data protection aspects of contracts, including international data transfers
- Ensure contracts procedures and policies are followed and risks escalated
- Own your own development and support the development of others within the business through feedback, coaching and mentoring.

- Excellent self-organisation skills - detailed planning skills and management of workload pipeline with a proactive approach to conflicting priorities
- Great team working - across our supplier and sourcing managers and our broader Legal department and throughout our business' multi-functional teams

Where and how you'll workThis is a permanent position based in our Nottingham offices.
We have a hybrid working model which gives you flexibility to work from our offices and from home.
We're big on collaboration and connection, so you'll be based in our Nottingham office 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
