Legal Counsel

Permanent

£44,000 - £65,000 (depending on experience)

A Legal Counsel is required to join a market-leading insurance company on a permanent basis. The role will support the smooth day-to-day running of the Group Legal function. You will be assisting the Group General Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel and will work in collaboration with other legal colleagues.

Travel to other companies within the Group or other Group business sites in Guernsey, Gibraltar, and Manchester may occasionally be required.

Job Responsibilities of the Legal Counsel:

  • Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a range of commercial contracts
  • Advising upon matters of general company law, including primary responsibility for advising stakeholders on legal matters
  • Advising on regulatory issues, particularly FCA, Gibraltar Financial Services, and Guernsey Financial Services matters
  • Assisting in drafting insurance policy wordings for motor and ancillary policies, along with company policies and procedures

Experience and skills required of the Legal Counsel:

  • Experience of working as a lawyer in an in-house and/or private practice capacity, ideally with insurance experience between 1-3 years post-qualification experience
  • Qualified Lawyer (Solicitor or Barrister) or equivalent
  • Experience of working in a regulatory environment. Experience working within the general insurance industry or in commercial settings is preferable
  • Knowledge of legal and/or corporate governance processes
  • Overview knowledge of relevant legislation (i.e. Companies Act, Data Protection Act, GDPR, FCA rules)
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrable legal research and IT skills
  • Resilient to challenge from senior levels whilst building and maintaining relationships
  • Capacity and credibility to assess risk, with knowledge of risk management techniques
