Legal Counsel opportunity:
Supporting the General Counsel in advising the business on a variety of legal queries.
You will work directly with a range of stakeholders across the business on construction projects using standard industry form contracts and also bespoke agreements.
You will review tenders (including framework agreements, main contract terms, collateral warranties and PCGs) and advise on their acceptability by reference to the business' mandated requirements.
You will advise on live projects, assisting in agreeing final terms and negotiating terms with the business' supply chain, as well as advising on the early stages of disputes.
You will be expected to provide assistance to other members of the legal team outside the core areas of your responsibility, for example in relation to non-construction related legal queries.
You will assist the other members of the legal team on wider strategic projects of the legal team to improve business standard and reduce risk, including by drafting and assisting in the roll-out of new policies and procedures and providing training on legal and practical issues.
What is needed from you as Legal Counsel:
- Solicitor qualified to practice in the UK preferably 4 years' Post Qualification experience
- Strong experience in working autonomously and being the sole legal advisor on a project
- Excellent attention to detail
- Experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts involving both public and private sector parties
- Experience in a legal team advising on construction projects
- Experience of construction standard form contracts
- Experience on M&E projects
- Property experience
- Proactive and self-motivated, track record of challenging and improving on the status quo
- Sound, practical and independent judgement and committed to the highest ethical standard
- Ability to self-manage and seek support when appropriate
