The School of Education at Manchester Metropolitan University delivers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in education, including Initial Teacher Education (ITE) in both Primary and Secondary settings. Our portfolio includes Primary ITE at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, alongside an extensive selection of Secondary subject specialisms.

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Primary Teacher Education with specialist expertise in Primary English, particularly in Early Reading and Phonics. In this role, you will:
Design and deliver engaging seminars and lectures across our Primary ITE programmes.
Teach across a range of modules, with the potential to contribute to other programmes within the broader education portfolio.
Lead and develop taught modules within the Primary curriculum.
Support student teachers and their mentors through placement visits and professional development activities, aligned with the latest Initial Teacher Education requirements.
Provide academic and pastoral support as a personal tutor to a group of students throughout the academic year.
Contribute to recruitment activities, including candidate interviews, open days, and twilight events.
Potentially lead thematic areas linked to statutory ITE guidance and the updated Ofsted inspection framework.
We are looking for an individual who brings the following experience and attributes:
A strong background in Primary Education, with specific expertise in Primary English, including phonics and early reading.
Demonstrated experience supporting student teachers or early career teachers, with insight into the sector's current challenges and priorities.
A solid understanding of the regulatory frameworks and quality standards for Initial Teacher Education, including recent changes implemented in 2024.
A good first degree and a PhD (or near completion) in a relevant field, or equivalent qualifications and experience. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
