We have been at the forefront of teacher education since the 1890's. We wish to appoint a Lecturer in Geography Education to lead our Geography PGCE which is rated as "outstanding" by Ofsted.
About the roleThis is an opportunity for a dynamic individual with expertise in teaching geography at secondary school level to join the School of Education, Communication and Society at one of the top 10 UK universities in the world. King's College London offers an intellectually stimulating environment in which to work, where staff are dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and learning, in the service of society. The lecturer in Geography Education will lead curriculum development and teaching on the Geography PGCE. This role will also contribute to the academic life of the Centre for Research in Education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CRESTEM) and will act as Personal Tutor to PGCE students.

This is a full time (35 hours per week) maternity cover role and will be offered on a fixed term contract until June 30th 2026.
About youTo be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria- A relevant Masters level qualification.
- Good honours degree in a Geography related discipline.
- QTS or other equivalent UK qualification.
- Expertise in teaching geography at secondary school level and a track record of successful classroom practice in geography education.
- Expertise and experience in applying innovative and effective teaching methods, including use of technology, approaches to assessment, and personal tutoring.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Awareness of current issues in teacher education and geography education.
- Reflective practice and communication of educational scholarship through peer engagement, publication or conferences.
- Ability to work under own initiative and meet competing deadlines.
Desirable criteria- A PhD in a relevant subject is highly desirable.
- Experience of running a PGCE Geography.
- Experience of engagement with external stakeholders and stakeholder networks relevant to Geography Education.
- Experience of secondary teaching in England.
