Job description

Are you looking for a meaningful role where you can make a lasting impact on the lives of young people?

A well-established specialist school situated in a peaceful rural setting near Andover is currently seeking a committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join its experienced and welcoming team.

The school provides tailored education and care for students aged 11 to 19 with autism spectrum conditions, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, and a range of associated learning difficulties. Set within spacious grounds and surrounded by countryside, the school offers a calm and structured environment that supports pupils in developing confidence, resilience, and independence—both in the classroom and beyond.

The most recent Ofsted inspection rated the school as “Good”, highlighting the strong relationships between staff and pupils, high expectations, and the positive progress made by students in both academic and personal development. Staff are passionate about delivering individualised support, and the wider school community is one where students feel valued, safe and understood.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supporting students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, in and out of the classroom
  2. Assisting teachers with lesson preparation, classroom organisation, and pupil engagement
  3. Supporting pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and social development
  4. Encouraging independence, self-esteem, and positive behaviour
  5. Helping implement individual education plans and behaviour strategies
  6. Working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team including teachers, therapists and support staff

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  1. Have experience supporting young people with SEN or SEMH needs (desirable but not essential)
  2. Be patient, empathetic and calm under pressure
  3. Have strong communication skills and a team-focused approach
  4. Be committed to safeguarding and supporting the wellbeing of pupils
  5. Hold a valid DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one before starting (at own cost)
  6. Hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle, due to the rural location and limited public transport links

In Return, the School Offers:

  1. £13.75 per hour, paid weekly
  2. A supportive, inclusive and rewarding working environment
  3. Free access to a broad range of CPD-accredited online training courses
  4. Opportunities for career development within a specialist educational setting
  5. The chance to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of young people

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting students with additional needs and wants to be part of a dedicated, close-knit team in a unique and supportive setting.
