Type: Full-time, Permanent

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our team at a specialist school in Totton, Southampton, which caters to children aged 4-18 with severe, profound, and complex learning difficulties and disabilities. Many of our students also have additional co-occurring needs such as autism, Down syndrome, and physical disabilities. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will support these children throughout their school day, including classroom learning, outdoor play, sensory room activities, hydrotherapy sessions, and supporting arrival and departure routines, as well as lunch times.

We are particularly interested in candidates with previous experience in Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools, as this will help you thrive in this dynamic and fulfilling environment, where no two days are the same. Your support will enable students to access the curriculum in ways that meet their individual needs, contributing to their well-being, safety, and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support for students across both primary and secondary school sites, with flexibility for placement preference.
  • Support students with a wide range of complex needs, ensuring they are included in all activities.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and staff to develop and implement individualized learning plans.
  • Facilitate the use of school facilities, including sensory rooms and hydro pool, supporting students in these settings.
  • Manage students' individual care and emotional needs, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  • Assist with daily activities such as lunchtime, transitions, and arrival/departure times.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with special educational needs is highly desirable.
  • Compassionate, patient, and proactive approach to supporting children with complex needs.
  • Flexibility to work across both primary and secondary sites, with placement preference considered.
  • Interest in engaging with students in sensory activities and hydrotherapy sessions.
  • Strong team collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with teachers, therapists, and support staff.
  • A current enhanced Child DBS certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

Why Join Us?

  • Competitive hourly rate of £13.75.
  • Work in a rewarding environment where your contributions directly impact students' lives.
  • Access to exceptional facilities, including sensory rooms and a hydro pool.
  • Supportive, collaborative team with professional growth opportunities.
  • Ongoing training and development in special education.
  • A dynamic school environment with new challenges and rewards every day.
