Job description

We are looking for a Learning Mentor (EAL) to join our team here at City of Peterborough Academy!

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint an enthusiastic and caring Learning Mentor to support the Academy by meeting the needs of students (across all subjects) who are in the early stages of learning English as an Additional Language.

The appointed Learning Mentor will take a lead role in addressing the needs of pupils requiring particular help to overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential by developing their skills.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Can act as a role model, challenge and motivate, promote and reinforce self-esteem and establish productive working relationships with pupils and develop 1:1 mentoring arrangements.
  • Has the ability to deliver learning activities to pupils within agreed system of supervision, adjusting activities according to pupil responses and needs.
  • Can work closely with the Head of Department/Key Stage Leader to support the needs of targeted groups of pupils.
  • Can act in accordance with Trust policies and procedures and relevant legislation, particularly in relation to child protection and behaviour management.
  • Has high expectations of themselves, always striving for the best.

The City of Peterborough Academy was opened in September 2013 by Greenwood Academies Trust (GAT) after a £13.8m capital build. Based on Reeves Way in Peterborough, the academy has quickly grown from strength to strength. A dedicated team of staff aim to help support every child in reaching their full potential. Additionally, we have been described as a truly ‘inclusive school’ at our recent National Inclusion Quality Mark inspection and have also been awarded 'Centre of Excellence Status'. We were also ‘runners up’ at the 2020 National SEN awards for National Most Inclusive Practice.
