At Oakleaf Partnership, I am proud to be partnering with this major retailer who is seeking a Learning and Development Manager to work with their Distribution centres.

Based: Welwyn Garden City - with some travel to distribution and fulfillment centres

The role:

As the Learning and Development Manager, you'll be at the forefront of shaping the strategic direction of functional learning across the organisation. Partnering with senior stakeholders, you will lead the charge in identifying current and future capability needs through comprehensive learning needs analysis. Your insights will feed into the development of a cohesive Group Capability strategy. Operating within the Capability PoE, you'll collaborate closely with other capability partners to ensure a standardised and consistent approach to learning across all learner audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Partner with senior stakeholders to develop and influence the strategic direction for functional learning, ensuring alignment with both market and central strategic priorities.
  2. Conduct robust, data-led learning needs analysis to prioritize market-focused capability plans, fostering the acquisition of skills and behaviors essential for success.
  3. Collaborate with other Capability Partners to integrate market needs into functional plans and vice versa, ensuring a comprehensive approach.
  4. Drive value through business-wide learning offerings, promoting consistency across all learning products and platforms.
  5. Forge partnerships with people business partners, talent partners, and POE teams to ensure end-to-end alignment with the overall colleague experience.
  6. Champion the core learning offer for colleagues, managers, and leaders, advocating for its adoption and ensuring a seamless learning experience across all functions within the Group.
  7. Take ownership of safe and legal training specific to your market, collaborating with Business Services to develop compliant content.
  8. Maintain a 20/80 balance, adhering to governance processes and prioritizing work in alignment with group capability plans.
  9. Exercise cost-consciousness in budgetary decisions, aligning with group capability budgeting priorities.
  10. Contribute to establishing a world-class Group PoE within capability, infusing outside-in thinking and prioritising the learner experience.
  11. Lead the market capability strategy, including Learning Tech experience and governance, to drive consistency and eliminate duplication.
  12. Source external strategic partners in accordance with procurement policy, aligning with group capability plan and priorities.
  13. Champion Win Together behaviors and contribute to cultural change initiatives, fostering a culture of learning across the group.

Key Requirements:

  1. Proven experience in setting group-wide capability strategies and gaining stakeholder engagement and buy-in.
  2. Demonstrated ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders, fostering strategic relationships across diverse international teams.
  3. Strong knowledge of current learning trends, both internal and external, with an understanding of how people learn.
  4. Proficiency in ruthless prioritisation, driven by data, commercial acumen, and subject matter expertise.
  5. Ability to connect learning initiatives to broader business contexts, thinking beyond immediate needs.
  6. Understanding of diversity and inclusion challenges and opportunities within learning and development.
  7. Familiarity with various learning and development interventions and providers.
  8. Extensive network of learning specialists to draw upon for external best practices.
