About the role

Benefact Group are looking for a Lead UX Designer to join our Gloucester office.

This role is responsible for driving the user-centred design standards, practices, and processes across Group Technology. You will work independently or with 3rd parties to deliver impactful design outcomes within product teams, while contributing to the development and influence of a broader UCD community of practice across the organisation. Operating within an established organisation aspiring to cultivate a thriving design culture, this dynamic role offers the opportunity to grow into leading a small team of designers, unlocking the full value of design across the entire product/service design lifecycle.

Key responsibilities
  • UX Design Delivery: Lead and deliver end-to-end UX design across a number of products, from research and ideation through to wireframes, prototypes, and user testing. Ensure designs are user-centred and meet business and user needs.
  • UCD and Design Strategy: Help develop and drive the strategic direction of UX and UCD practices, advocating for user-centred approaches across the product/service lifecycle. Collaborate with key stakeholders to align UX design with business goals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate effectively with business SMEs, product owner, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality user experiences.
  • Team Development: As the team grows, assist in the recruitment, mentoring, and development of designers and/or design agencies. Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously assess and improve design processes and practices to ensure that design adds value throughout the entire lifecycle, not just during build.
  • Advocacy & Influence: Act as a champion for user-centred design across the organisation, working with stakeholders to ensure that UX considerations are embedded early in the design process and product development.
Knowledge, skills and experience
  • User-Centred Design and Strategy: Comprehensive understanding of user-centred design methodologies and tools, with the ability to apply them across the entire product/service lifecycle to drive impactful outcomes.
  • UX Design Expertise: Proven expertise in delivering hands-on UX design work, including creating wireframes, user flows, interaction designs, and prototypes that align with user needs and business goals.
  • Design Strategy: Proven ability to influence the strategic direction of UX and UCD functions within an organisation, including embedding UCD principles in product and service design.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams (e.g., product owners, developers) and to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Process Leadership: Ability to define and improve design processes that support the integration of UX and UCD principles into the full product/service lifecycle.
  • Leadership Potential: Proven ability to work independently and lead by example. Eagerness to develop and lead a small team of designers over time, with a focus on mentoring and team development.
  • Tools & Technologies: Proficiency in design tools such as Figma and whiteboarding applications.
  • Processes: Experience of delivering design within Agile development processes.
  • User Research: Experience conducting user research (e.g., interviews, surveys, usability testing) to gather insights that inform design decisions.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex user needs and business requirements into intuitive, user-friendly design solutions.
